Adolescence<\/a> actor Owen Cooper told Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a> that he\u2019s \u201cnot Scouse\u201d at the Critics\u2019 Choice Awards on Sunday (January 4).<\/p>\n

Chalamet was named Best Actor for playing Marty Mauser in Marty Supreme<\/a>, with the movie also getting a further eight nominations. Adolescence, meanwhile, led the TV categories with six nominations, winning four. The latter included a Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television win for Cooper as Jamie Miller.<\/p>\n

Cooper and Chalamet, who recently quashed rumours that he was the anonymous Liverpool rapper EsDeeKid by teaming up with him in a new remix<\/a> and video, were captured on camera discussing the city at the awards show.<\/p>\n

In the clip, filmed by E! News, Chalamet asks Cooper about his phone background, which the latter seems to confirm is a tribute to late footballer Diogo Jota, who was a Liverpool player at the time of his death in a car accident in July last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Chalamet responded with \u201cDiogo Jota RIP\u201d, before asking Cooper if he\u2019s from Liverpool. Cooper was born and raised in Warrington, halfway between Liverpool and Manchester, seemed to say, \u201cI\u2019m not,\u201d before adding: \u201cI don\u2019t have a Scouse accent\u201d.<\/p>\n

The pair then posed for photos together, with Cooper putting his arm around Chalamet, who flashed a peace sign. Cooper shared the images on his Instagram Stories, and they went viral after being shared on social media.<\/p>\n

In one, he poked fun at the EsDeeKid<\/a> rumours by tagging the rapper rather than Chalamet himself.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere at the awards, Chalamet thanked his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, for supporting his acting career<\/a>. Accepting his Best Actor award, he started: I got a lot of people to thank. I don\u2019t know if I\u2019ll be up here again, so give me a second. Damn, I\u2019m more nervous than I thought I\u2019d be.\u201d<\/p>\n

He paid tribute to his fellow nominees, including Michael B. Jordan<\/a> for his roles in Sinners<\/a>, and to Marty Supreme director Josh Safdie for \u201ccrafting a role and story\u201d for him. Then, to Jenner, he said: \u201cThank you to my partner of three years. Thank you for our foundation. I love you. I couldn\u2019t do this without you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marty Supreme earned a glowing five-star review from NME<\/a>, with Jordan Bassett writing: \u201cThe direction is so frenetic that it somehow makes table tennis even more thrilling than the rubber-burning race scenes in F1, while there are at least three jaw-dropping set-pieces that Safdie lands on you like gleefully delivered trick shots.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adolescence, meanwhile, got four stars.<\/a> \u201cWhile there\u2019s room for improvement, Adolescence is still essential viewing,\u201d wrote Rhian Daly. \u201cIts unflinching commitment to the darkest corners of the story will remain with you long after the credits have rolled. These four episodes alone won\u2019t stop the encroachment of the so-called \u2018manosphere\u2019 on regular boys\u2019 lives but it has the power to start some much-needed conversations.\u201d<\/p>\n

NME also named the Netflix<\/a> drama as one of the top TV shows of 2025<\/a>, writing: \u201cEvery year there\u2019s a show that enflames the collective consciousness so aggressively it seems almost divinely ordained. As if the big telly god in the sky has analysed all of our brains and crafted the perfect story to match. In 2025,\u00a0Adolescence was that show.\u201d<\/p>\n
