The Honda Prelude hasn\u2019t been out long, but it\u2019s already the focus of quite a bit of attention at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon. Honda gave us its HRC Prelude Concept<\/a>, and now, we’ve discovered that Mugen has its own interpretation of the car with the Mugen Prelude Spec.III.<\/p>\n

Mugen built some history into this Spec.III car, for the true Honda nerds. Way back in 1987, Mugen came out with a Prelude Mugen Spec.II<\/a>. King Motorsports conveniently posted the Spec.II<\/a> on Instagram (post below) not too long ago, the build of which included a comprehensive body kit and numerous performance enhancements. Mugen says it\u2019s picking up where it left off with the new Spec.III.<\/p>\n

This new kit from Mugen has a whole lot of carbon fiber parts designed to enhance aerodynamic performance, including a front splitter, side sills, rear spoiler, rear diffuser and hidden rear under spoiler. It also has carbon fiber mirror caps and body side decals reminiscent of the Spec.II<\/a> car. No interior photos are available, but Mugen says it features an interior serial number plate.<\/p>\n

Performance add-ons are where we have to splash some cold water on the party. Mugen says the car features its sports exhaust system and lightweight wheels, but that\u2019s it. We\u2019re sure you want more horsepower than the hybrid powertrain in the Prelude offers\u2014but, to be historically accurate, the Spec.III car is largely adhering to a similar scope as the Spec.II<\/a> in its modifications.<\/p>\n

One rather exciting angle for this Prelude Spec.III is that folks will be able to buy one in Japan. A lottery will be held for the 16 build slots; you provide the car, and the Mugen Spec.III build will cost 1.65 million yen, or just under $10,500 at today\u2019s exchange rates.<\/p>\n
