He played in all 14 of Ohio State\u2019s games in 2025, including 81 snaps on defense as the Buckeyes\u2019 No. 2 strong safety behind Jaylen McClain. He recorded 12 tackles with one tackle for loss as a true freshman.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWith McClain returning in 2026, however, Delane has decided to take his talents elsewhere rather than potentially spend another year waiting for his opportunity to start.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHe\u2019s the third Ohio State safety to enter the transfer portal this week, joining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elevenwarriors.com\/ohio-state-football\/2026\/01\/161040\/ohio-state-safety-malik-hartford-enters-the-transfer-portal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Malik Hartford<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elevenwarriors.com\/ohio-state-football\/2026\/01\/160998\/ohio-state-safety-keenan-nelson-jr-enters-the-transfer-portal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Keenan Nelson Jr.<\/a>\u00a0Their departures, along with Caleb Downs\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elevenwarriors.com\/ohio-state-football\/2026\/01\/160839\/ohio-state-safety-caleb-downs-declares-for-the-2026-nfl-draft\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">entry into the 2026 NFL draft<\/a>,\u00a0increase the need for the Buckeyes to add a safety through the transfer portal. Ohio State\u00a0now has\u00a0just two returning safeties \u2013 McClain and Leroy Roker III \u2013 who played defensive snaps in 2025.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tDelane is the seventh member of Ohio State\u2019s 2025 freshman class to enter the portal after just one year as a Buckeye, joining wide receivers Quincy Porter and Bodpegn Miller, offensive linemen Jayvon McFadden and Isaiah Kema and defensive tackles Jarquez Carter and Maxwell Roy.
