{"id":401657,"date":"2026-01-11T20:20:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T20:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/401657\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T20:20:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T20:20:09","slug":"country-music-stars-who-you-might-not-know-are-battling-serious-health-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/401657\/","title":{"rendered":"Country music stars who you might not know are battling serious health issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QUA223CJPZES7EB77VTFMTT6DI\">They say the show must go on, and there are a handful of country music stars living up to that as 2026 gets underway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"A3I5DNNX5RG2LCOKNKDOJHN7DU\">Because, despite having to manage some serious health issues, many of the following stars are still showing up fo the stage to put on a show for their fans. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VOCRUSYQNBCQNPTSOEJL3OZTII\">The following is a quick look at country music stars who have shared their health battles with fans as the new year gets underway:<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QESFGMU43VB2VC3ZTKJ63WFDSE\">PAUL CAUTHEN<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PBSVBAOLQBACPLJZO5XF57P3D4\">Paul Cauthen stunned the country music world in 2025 when he announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer, and just a few weeks later he delivered another shocker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2EVDSDOPPBDY5BQ4ROQYDXHSKQ\">The 40-year-old singer took to social media to announce that he was not going to treat his cancer via traditional methods but was instead opting for a holistic approach. Cauthen later opened up about exactly what he is doing to treat his thyroid cancer as well as how he thinks things are going during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yXTDaCOYVLc&amp;list=PLqPBZXD01NN23kiRFetPb2mjewRIVzooK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yXTDaCOYVLc&amp;list=PLqPBZXD01NN23kiRFetPb2mjewRIVzooK\">an appearance on the \u201cTen Year Town\u201d podcast with Troy Cartwright.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"E3GRICX2WVGSXHDGNCPM5OAHMI\">\u201cGoing good,\u201d Cauthen said. \u201cWhipping cancer\u2019s ass. It\u2019s going great. I\u2019ve been taking a bunch of supplements. Taking ivermectin, fenbendazole and methylene blue. All these things not a lot of people talk about instead of doing the general way of having your whole endocrine system ripped out of your throat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Q2KZW7UXORHZZAFWUH6OJPRU6A\">Cauthen then touched on some formerly in his circle being against him taking a holistic approach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7ZVTYJU55BGS5EG7KH3DRQNVYA\">\u201cI went a different way,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, it has been \u2026 a lot of people shunned me for it. A lot of people have gotten a lot of flack. I\u2019ve stopped working with people because of this situation. It\u2019s been weird. You want to actually make a call for your own body, and people want to make calls for your body for you. That was the first time I ever had that feeling. I guess getting cancer is one of those things that kind of opened up who the real people are in your life that are in it for you and your health and your journey back to your most wanted health. Instead of playing psychological games and trying to tell you what to do and have you do this and do that, and you need to be like that, and we have the answers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"M5VZCMANHZHQFDHL4I6PB3O2AE\">\u201cEverybody can tell you what they believe, but you gotta go find it out for yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JTZBE3XJ3BA3XPR35WM62JNRPY\">Cauthen said that he has always been \u201cas a stubborn as a mule.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HZZTQIPRQZHUFCJ5SMGBM2LMRQ\">\u201cIt\u2019s wild. It\u2019s scary,\u201d he said. \u201cI took a tougher road in the end. I\u2019d already be healed up, but there\u2019s a chance I could have lost my voice. There\u2019s you know, I could have been unstable in my calcium and my levels could be, I could feel like I have a weighted blanket on me every day and be fatigued, chronic fatigue. Maybe me sex drive goes down. There\u2019s so many things that can happen when you pull this organ out of your body. It takes you years to get stable on supplements, and you\u2019re married to supplements the rest of your life. So, I\u2019m taking a crapload of supplements now, and I\u2019ve lost 25 pounds, and I believe that in the end I can say that cancer really saved my life because it stopped a lot of my bad habits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DEXN3RDNXJAFLOGTV2H44HFRZM\">\u201cI was eating double cheeseburgers at 4 a.m. on the bus,\u201d Cauthen said. \u201cI haven\u2019t had bread in a long time or beer really. I have a different outlook. So, in the end, I think in the long game, me getting healthy and taking this path of health and wellness and eating clean is going to save me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KJIPR5DZWZC2LGXKVVWDUO2JDM\">\u201cGive me longevity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"63Y7P7CVYBHBJHKXBL4HA4AJME\">Cauthen still seems to be doing pretty good, and he and his wife recently announced they are expecting a child in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"74QYPGPP6FECRB3WVWIIBE24BI\">MARK CHESNUTT<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LK6EKZ4NSRAGZHNCPLJTN3LFJI\">Mark Chesnutt had a rough couple of months in 2024, and that is probably putting it lightly because the country music star very nearly lost his life last June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"XGZ37XSBPBBAFFOBLE7PILJYSY\">The 62-year-old was rushed into emergency surgery where he underwent quadruple bypass surgery. It sounds serious because it is, but Chesnutt is apparently one, tough dude because he made it back pretty quickly and was already touring by the end of 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"S2HZHHGCSFACROJZOV5CC4DCSM\">However, he again was hospitalized on Oct. 16, 2025, before he was slated to open for the group, Alabama. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RB4AH5SWERBI5K5IU4FNCTBPDU\">His publicist, Don Murry Grubbs, <a href=\"https:\/\/countrynow.com\/mark-chesnutt-cancels-shows-following-hospitalization-issues-health-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/countrynow.com\/mark-chesnutt-cancels-shows-following-hospitalization-issues-health-update\/\">told Countrynow.com<\/a> that doctors discovered that Chesnutt had a \u201clow sodium count\u201d and \u201cvery high blood pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FTJHACGFINCHXPRKRYUALBZPGM\">JOHN DRISKELL HOPKINS<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"O7OIM72PZ5ACJNOS5R6OJNLTBQ\">Zac Brown Band bass guitarist John Driskell Hopkins announced that he had been diagnosed with ALS about three years ago, and he is still out there battling the disease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MAS3YKCA4JCLPDZHB6Z5YHU3T4\">In an interview with Fox in 2024, he revealed how he came to suspect that something was wrong, and how he finally got his diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CEEKLWGFT5HGXJ72BF4BFVXF4E\">\u201cI told the guys back in 2019 that there was something wrong with me,\u201d he said. \u201cLike, before COVID my bluegrass hand was, you know, this hand was doing great and this hand was slowing down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QIKHMRUXFJFZFJ7CPCUDAB4QKI\">\u201cAnd all throughout COVID, I played gigs in Cul-de-sacs and private homes and back porches, and I noticed a little bit, but it wasn\u2019t until we got back out in the fall of \u201821 that I really noticed changes above and beyond me just not being able to keep up with bluegrass. It was more like, I was laughing on stage, and my legs were locking up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YI3K5TLJGBCDJLMQPLL22OTXP4\">Driskell Hopkins said that at first they thought the issue was caused from the new statin drugs that he started for cholesterol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SEC6NQKGUVHBZEUERK4H5Z6RLI\">\u201cThen we thought, \u2018Could it be some sort of head injury?\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cAnd, you know, I never played football really. I knocked my head around a little bit, but nothing crazy. It wasn\u2019t until two neurologists missed it that we landed on the third and got the diagnosis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CDZHBT2LZFFAFNOALYX3OZXGYU\">ASHLEY COOKE<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YBQOM6OE3NBOJGRCMKAUQC7ZX4\">Ashley Cooke\u2019s health revelation in 2025 had her fans sending prayers and well-wishes. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5CEWRXCSMNDN7LDJNZK5OLBYFI\">The 28-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@theashleycooke\/video\/7524376532647709983\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@theashleycooke\/video\/7524376532647709983\">made the revelation on a TikTok video<\/a>. She mentioned that she was having a career year, and she did indeed find success, but \u2026 man, she really had a rough run of health-related news. That included her dropping in the nugget about a diagnosis of her own.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5YDU2LI4NBEYBJJZPB7L3QIXWQ\">Cooke provided more information<a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/ashley-cooke-heart-condition-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/ashley-cooke-heart-condition-interview\/\"> on that in an interview with Taste of Country.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"S2TYQBDOHFHMZCBIBMDLMW4WY4\">\u201cIt\u2019s a genetic thing called Brugada syndrome,\u201d she told the site. \u201cA lot of my family members have passed away unexpectedly, very healthy and very young, from it. So it\u2019s very scary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"H4AU2RRO55F5XNUXGAKM3GODEM\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/brugada-syndrome\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20370489\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/brugada-syndrome\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20370489\">The Mayo Clinic says<\/a> that Brugada syndrome is \u201ca rare but potentially life-threatening heart rhythm condition that is sometimes inherited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"W7OIQ6JQMVDWFMBCW4DNTAJY2A\">It adds that people with Brugada syndrome have \u201can increased risk of irregular heart rhythms beginning in the lower chambers of the heart (ventricles). This disease can cause an abnormal rhythm in the heart\u2019s lower chambers, leading to ventricular fibrillation (v-fib) and sudden cardiac death, often occurring while at rest or asleep.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2RM4DXG5MFENRAXLWW3U4HC4IY\">Cooke told Taste of Country she underwent multiple EKGs to get to the diagnosis and is working with a cardiologist to try to find out more about her condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZCNNGUKARVDOZJ2JMU5IFLVJCI\">\u201cThe crazy part is, it doesn\u2019t really impact anything about my daily life,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s the scary part about Brugada syndrome. It just feels like a ghost around you. Because there\u2019s no warning signs, no symptoms. It\u2019s just one of those things where all of a sudden one day, this certain thing in your heart can just stop, and you\u2019re just gone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ARBP2BJJGVGLFLLEJQ53MPHK5Q\">\u201cIt\u2019s terrifying,\u201d she added. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t impact anything that I do, or how I function, until one day, it maybe just could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DPOUSAA6VBF7PP7AQWEGBHKIHE\">COLT FORD<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PZYYRCRRENFEBE7SGIX6IVUMWU\">Colt Ford died twice after collapsing following a show in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"65AIU3LN6ND7DM3OSTOFWWMGOU\">Obviously, doctors were able to bring him back both times, and he is already back out there touring and making music. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OXAAMMBXXVCZLO3LM4XCQQ7ZDA\">He revealed some of the details of what happened in 2024 when he called in to the Big D and Bubba radio show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3ANJYM7OIZFVFDRDW2S4M5BV2I\">\u201cIt\u2019s been a traumatic, crazy experience,\u201d Ford told the hosts. \u201cI didn\u2019t even remember coming out here to do a show in Phoenix.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"T4UHYSUHZVFUBAH5XQW4IHYKLY\">Ford had just stepped back onto his tour bus after performing at Dierks Bentley\u2019s Whiskey Row bar when he texted his fianc\u00e9e, \u2018Hi baby.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3ZZTZFJEORDMBJ4MKA5436T7UI\">\u201cAnd then I fell over dead,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3THBMYTS4NB6PB7JCCYV3HEZNM\">Ford said that, luckily, his band came out to check on him and found him. And, he said, country music star Brantley Gilbert got involved in getting him to the hospital and, eventually, making sure he was switched to another hospital when the one they were at didn\u2019t have the correct equipment to deal with Ford\u2019s heart situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QEZTYLO6VFH5XNUGCGHBS5U73Y\">\u201cHe said, \u2018I don\u2019t care what you do, get him to the other hospital,\u2019\u201d Ford said of Gilbert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5JL3QQO3SRCA3LTIPWUZTMDXUQ\">Ford said he died during transport to the other hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3GWSERAEPFEH7HB4EQVQKRPXS4\">\u201cThey brought me back,\u201d he said. \u201cThey saved my life. The Lord had more for me to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YWDQJJL65FEEDA3TXAUOH747MY\">He added that one of his doctors told him he would not have given him a 1-percent chance to live.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CIBA3QLTNNGZZK6NIY3CVE44GY\">\u201cHe said, I would give you a .1 percent chance that you would have survived,\u2019\u201d Ford said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZAZSMDMVPZFRXG6KZZM3DXSQMU\">\u201cI had so much trauma in my body and my heart,\u201d he said. \u201cI had three stints put in (my heart).\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HE73G2ZBEBCOXM7UCDLOEZ5LHU\">Ford toured the country in 2025 and seems to be doing much better. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"W757ESKA5ZF4ZC6GN2G6IBXVPY\">ALAN JACKSON <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ENALP6OXSJD3PEHIVAN65EXFSI\">Alan Jackson will go down as one of the greatest country music stars of all-time when all is said and done. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TMGV6SHYVZEOJJPB56VBQ5D7QU\">The icon retired in 2025 from touring \u2014 he is planning one final farewell show for June 2026 \u2014 and there were multiple reasons for that. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"53VVLKKBUNCLLCRMOISGO4IE4U\">One reason is that he has been battling with a rare genetic condition alled Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. It is a chronic neuropathy condition that affects a person\u2019s balance and ability to walk, and it apparently runs in his family. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PHA4NJ7F6VGXXHTJ5CVRZJJU5U\">\u201cMost of my fans know I have a degenerative health condition that affects my legs and arms and my mobility that I got from my daddy and it\u2019s getting worse,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, it makes me more uncomfortable on stage, and I just have a hard time, and I just want to think about maybe calling it quits before I\u2019m unable to do the job like I want to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"O4FO3GTBCRGP3FZZKNGZOEL7PI\">RONNIE MCDOWELL<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CJHUMALUSFHNLIXMP4SX72IT5I\">Country music icon Ronnie McDowell had a medical scare while playing at a music festival in Pennsylvania in 2025, but it didn\u2019t keep him down long. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2OHPRYO5EFCETDVXF4WY4QBXSM\">The 75-year-old Navy veteran is one tough dude, and we know that because he was quickly back out walking and playing shows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JGUJNIXJKFBILOPSJDCZWZWFCU\">\u201cHi folks!\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/1EprVMUa3g\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/1EprVMUa3g\/\">McDowell said in a video he shared to Facebook<\/a> while he was getting a workout in. \u201cYep, I had a stroke. I gotta get all this plaque cleared out here in my jugular, but you know what? I\u2019m walking. Yep. I\u2019m doing my two-mile walk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QBEB5BNURVCIDJPTKIJCGURQP4\">McDowell suffered the medical scare while playing at the Summer Solstice Music Festival in Oley, Pennsylvania. McDowell began slurring his words onstage when his son, Ronnie Dean McDowell Jr., stepped in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DPV3DYG7QVDCHEB2BDHSENIXIM\">\u201cI knew something wasn\u2019t right as I had his vocals in my in ear monitor and I could hear him slurring his words and forgetting the words to his songs that he has sang for many years,\u201d Ronnie Dean wrote on Facebook. \u201cAfter a few minutes I had Steve to play a solo while I took my dad off side stage to ask him how he was feeling. He told me that he wasn\u2019t OK, and that\u2019s not how my strong Dad talks. He said that he thought he might be having a stroke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QULTUBLIMRDWDNSCW6OQFXMVGE\">McDowell Jr. said he immediately took his dad to a van to cool off and asked the promoter to bring over the EMT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"X23XFU4OVJHEDAPXYGIVILANUA\">\u201cThey took him to the Reading hospital,\u201d he said. \u201cI will say this, that every single person at the hospital was so incredibly nice and helpful. The Doctors told him that he will need surgery in the next few weeks. They do want him to take it easy, but they said that he can perform and workout in the next few days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UYT2DSMWX5BYHIUSOAIAETU7X4\">McDowell began his career in 1977 and charted more than 30 songs in the top 40 on the Billboard country music charts. Two of those songs \u2014 \u201cOlder Woman\u201d and \u201cYou\u2019re Gonna Ruin My Bad Reputation\u201d \u2014 each reached the top spot on the charts.
