Skarsg\u00e5rd, who played a negligent father in \u201cSentimental Value,\u201d made a joke about his own kids helping him understand what a bad parent was, and made a plea for the importance of seeing movies in theaters, saying \u201ccinema should be seen in cinemas.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jean Smart, as she won her third Golden Globe for best performance by a female actor in a television series, musical or comedy for her work in \u201cHacks,\u201d cracked, \u201cWhat can I say, I\u2019m a greedy [expletive].\u201d<\/p>\n
Seth Rogen, winning for best performance by a male actor in a television series, musical or comedy, made a joke about having filmed a similar sequence on his Hollywood satire, \u201cThe Studio,\u201d thinking it would be his only way to get a Golden Globe. Rogen went on to congratulate everyone in the room, but particularly the A-listers near the stage, saying, \u201cIf you win, you should get to move down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Later on, the show introduced its newest category: best podcast. \u201cBefore podcasts, I was what you all listened to driving around in your cars,\u201d Snoop Dogg said while introducing the nominees. Burlington native Amy Poehler won the inaugural award<\/a> for her show \u201cGood Hang with Amy Poehler,\u201d and gave a typically funny speech. <\/p>\n \u201cThis is exactly how I pictured it, Snoop giving me the award,\u201d Poehler said. \u201cI don\u2019t know about award shows, but when they get it right, it makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n She went on to praise her fellow nominees \u2014 \u201cexcept for NPR,\u201d she joked \u2014 before wrapping up by telling her parents they could go ahead and switch to the Patriots game now.<\/p>\n Paul Thomas Anderson won best screenplay for \u201cOne Battle after Another,\u201d receiving a standing ovation from his cast, and saying \u201cI\u2019ve written for a lot of people in this room.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWriters, we\u2019re magpies. We steal all the bits and pieces that everybody says as best we can.\u201d Anderson explained. \u201cI share this with everybody I magpied off of.\u201d He won again for best director, saying, \u201cYou guys are being so generous to me for this film.\u201d<\/p>\n Rose Byrne won best performance by a female actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy, for her work in \u201cIf I Had Legs, I\u2019d Kick You.\u201d A native Australian, she made a point of thanking her parents for signing up for Paramount+ so they could watch the Golden Globes in Sydney, and thanked her husband, fellow actor Bobby Cannavale, who apparently couldn\u2019t join her at the ceremony because he was busy buying the family a bearded dragon at a reptile expo in New Jersey.<\/p>\n \u201cAdolescence\u201d repeated its wins from the Emmys, with stars Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty, as well as creator and star Stephen Graham winning in their respective categories. Graham gave a heartfelt speech thanking his family and costars, wrapping up with a nod to his wife and kids, before interrupting himself for a bit of stargazing, saying \u201cQueen Latifah, wow, can\u2019t believe it.\u201d \u201cThe Secret Agent\u201d won for best foreign film, with director Kleber Mendon\u00e7a Filho dedicating the award to young filmmakers, saying \u201cThis is a very important time in history to be making films.\u201d<\/p>\n Netflix\u2019s animated sensation \u201cKpop Demon Hunters\u201d had a big night as well, bringing home wins for best original song for \u201cGolden\u201d and for best motion picture, animated. The final awards of the night went to \u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d for best motion picture, musical or comedy, and \u201cHamnet\u201d for best motion picture, drama.<\/p>\n Heading into Sunday\u2019s awards show, \u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d led the film field with nine nominations, including best motion picture, musical or comedy, with stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, and Benicio del Toro also nominated. \u201cThe White Lotus\u201d led the television nominations with six, including best television series, drama, as well as nods for cast members Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, and Aimee Lou Wood.<\/p>\n Other nominees with New England ties<\/a> this year included Dorchester native Ayo Edebiri, up for her work on \u201cThe Bear\u201d; New Hampshire\u2019s Adam Sandler, nominated for his role in Netflix\u2019s \u201cJay Kelly\u201d; plus the Ipswich-filmed \u201cSorry, Baby,\u201d with director-writer-star Eva Victor nominated for best actress in a motion picture, drama. <\/p>\n The Golden Globes previously honored Helen Mirren with the Cecil B.
