Lucas Paquet\u00e1 asked to be left out of West Ham\u2019s FA Cup tie against QPR <\/a>and is keen to join Flamengo this month. The Brazilian club had a \u20ac35m (\u00a330.3m) bid rejected on Monday but are willing to go to \u20ac40m.<\/p>\n

The midfielder has grown disillusioned with life in England and wants to return to his homeland. Paquet\u00e1 was last year cleared of alleged breaches<\/a> of the Football Association\u2019s betting regulations, and it is unclear whether he will play for West Ham again. The uncertainty over his future increased when he missed the third\u2011round win against QPR despite being fit.<\/p>\n

West Ham are aware of the 28-year-old\u2019s unhappiness but wary of selling him before the end of the season. Nuno Esp\u00edrito Santo\u2019s side are 18th in the Premier League before visiting Tottenham on Saturday and regard Paquet\u00e1 as a key asset in their fight against relegation.<\/p>\n

A source close to Paquet\u00e1 said there was no chance the Brazil international would be at the London Stadium next season. The former Lyon midfielder, who joined West Ham for \u00a351m in August 2022, began his career at Flamengo<\/a> and hopes to return before this summer\u2019s World Cup. The Brazilian S\u00e9rie A club are likely to test West Ham\u2019s resolve this month. Links with Tottenham have been played down by the player\u2019s camp.<\/p>\n

It remains to be seen whether West Ham have a change of heart and decide there is little upside to forcing Paquet\u00e1 to stay. Paquet\u00e1\u2019s form has dipped since the FA\u2019s investigation into spot-fixing allegations came to light in 2023. The episode cost the playmaker a move to Manchester City<\/a> and is one of the reasons why he does not want to stay in England.<\/p>\n

West Ham are disappointed with Paquet\u00e1\u2019s determination to leave given that they supported him during the investigation. However, the player has struggled to contain his emotions and boiled over during a 2-0 defeat by Liverpool<\/a> in November. Paquet\u00e1 picked up a ludicrous red card when he received two bookings in quick succession for dissent. He later accused the FA<\/a> of not providing him psychological support.<\/p>\n

A consideration for West Ham is whether they can reinvest a fee for Paquet\u00e1 in their unbalanced squad this month. Resisting Aston Villa\u2019s attempts to sign him last summer has not paid off. Paquet\u00e1 has four goals and one assist in 18 league appearances this season and has grown weary of West Ham\u2019s struggles.<\/p>\n

Nuno must decide whether he has enough in attack to sanction a sale. West Ham have signed Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos, who scored the winner against QPR.
