Geno Auriemma has been coaching for 40 years now, guiding the UConn Huskies to 12 NCAA national titles and becoming the winningest coach in college basketball, men and women. Even after 40 years and losing his star player, Paige Bueckers, to the WNBA, his UHuskies are still favorites to win a back-to-back national title.<\/p>\n
In 2018, Auriemma appeared in a series of videos<\/a> for the What Drives Winning YouTube channel where he talked about what it means to win, as well as its more darker side. He was asked about what his biggest internal conflict was, and he replied by saying:<\/p>\n \u201cThe battle that I have with myself is what\u2019s the point now? Like, what am I gonna do that hasn\u2019t been done what are you gonna ask me to do that I haven\u2019t done?It\u2019s hard for me to answer that question now.\u201d (6:46)<\/p>\n \u201cI was saying this at our Leadership Conference when you\u2019ve already done more than anyone else has ever done and you say to yourself, I\u2019m gonna do more,\u201d he added. \u201cHow\u2019s that possible? It\u2019s a scary thought to think that you can because that\u2019s an arrogant thought.\u201d<\/p>\n Geno Auriemma went on to give an example, which is his friend Tiger Woods, who used to be dominant in golf but struggled later in his career. He noted that getting arrogant because of all the success is what ultimately what leads to the downfall of many of the most successful people.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Caitlin Clark Reveals Geno Auriemma Never Tried Recruiting Her<\/p>\n While Caitlin Clark had one legendary college run during her time with the Iowa Hawkeyes, she revealed that there was one school that she really wanted to recruit her, and that was UConn. However, she noted that Geno Auriemma never really came to her.<\/p>\n Clark was a five-star recruit from her class, averaging 15.3 points, 4.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game for Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines. She stated<\/a> that while a lot of Division I coaches showed up to watch her play, one of the people she wanted to recruit her never showed up at all.<\/p>\n \u201cGeno never came,\u201d she said<\/a>. \u201cHonestly, it was more I wanted them to recruit me to say I got recruited. I loved UConn.
