Thanasi Kokkinakis played one singles match in Adelaide, where he defeated Sebastian Korda.

Thanasi Kokkinakis<\/a> announced his withdrawal from the Australian Open<\/a> singles event on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately after speaking with my team and doctors I have made the decision to pull out of the @AustralianOpen singles,\u201d Kokkinakis wrote on Instagram Stories. \u201cAfter an incredibly tough year this was the event I was looking forward to the most but I\u2019m not ready yet. I\u2019m doing everything I can every day to be back to 100%.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kokkinakis played his first singles match in nearly a year last week at the Adelaide International<\/a>, where he defeated Sebastian Korda<\/a> in a final-set tie-break.\n<\/p>\n

But throughout the match, the Australian struggled with his right shoulder on the back of pectoral surgery last February. He withdrew from Adelaide on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old hopes to compete in doubles at Melbourne Park. He won the title with Nick Kyrgios<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will still try and step out for the doubles and have some fun,\u201d Kokkinakis wrote. \u201cThank you to everyone who supports me.\u201d<\/p>\n
