\n\tJosh Safdie<\/a> told Sean Baker during a recent episode of the A24 Podcast<\/a> that an early draft of \u201cMarty Supreme<\/a>\u201d took Timothe\u00e9 Chalamet\u2019s titular ping-pong star all the way through the late \u201880s, where he becomes a successful business owner. However, in the film\u2019s final moment, Milton Rockwell, played by Kevin O\u2019Leary, would take \u201ca bite out of his neck,\u201d paying off Rockwell\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m a vampire\u201d line earlier in the third act.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe turns that [shoe store] into the most successful shop on Orchard Street. He changes it to Marty Mauser\u2019s Shoes,\u201d Safdie said of the scraped ending. \u201cFranchises, franchises again, leaves New York State, becomes a very rich man. All the metrics of success are there. His family grows, he leaves the city, has this beautiful house, and it ends with him at a concert for Tears for Fears with his granddaughter. They\u2019re great seats, up front, and he\u2019s watching it. And he\u2019s thinking about \u2018Everybody Wants to Rule the World,\u2019 and youth, and what does it mean, and he has this success, but he\u2019s not doing the thing that he believed he was born on the planet to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSafdie then dropped the punchline, \u201cYou\u2019re on his eyes, we built the prosthetics for Timmy and everything, and Mr. Wonderful shows up behind him and takes a bite out of his neck, and that was the last image. And he hasn\u2019t aged.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSafdie recalled that when A24 read the ending, studio execs asked him, \u201c\u2019This is a mistake, right?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tO\u2019Leary recently told Variety<\/a> that he was all for the vampiric payoff, sharing that Safdie \u201cwent as far as to make digital teeth.\u201d He added, \u201cI know that sounds nuts, but to me that would be the right punishment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cShark Tank\u201d star shared that he was \u201creally unsatisfied\u201d with the conclusion of \u201cMarty Supreme,\u201d given that his character gets \u201cfucked over\u201d while Marty and his family have a \u201ckumbaya ending.\u201d O\u2019Leary suggested Odessa A\u2019Zion\u2019s Rachel had to \u201cdie in childbirth\u201d at the end as punishment for Marty Mauser\u2019s selfishness.
