Stock futures rose Thursday, as Wall Street tried to recover from back-to-back losing sessions. <\/p>\n
Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> were up 97 points, or 0.2%. S&P 500 futures<\/a> climbed 0.3%, and Nasdaq-100 futures<\/a> advanced 0.8% higher.<\/p>\n Chip stocks led the way in early trading after Taiwan Semiconductor<\/a> delivered another record quarter, reporting a 35% jump in profit<\/a> that revived investor confidence in artificial intelligence. <\/p>\n Taiwan Semi jumped 6% in the premarket, while Micron Technology<\/a> popped 3%. Nvidia<\/a> and AMD<\/a> gained more than 1% each.<\/p>\n The moves also come after President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a proclamation<\/a> that imposes a 25% tariff on certain semiconductors<\/a>. The levy won’t apply to chips that are imported to contribute to the buildout of the U.S.’s technology supply chain, however.<\/p>\n Goldman Sachs<\/a> shares rose slightly by 0.2% after the bank topped profit estimates<\/a>. Morgan Stanley<\/a> gained by more than 1% following its earnings results. <\/p>\n A pullback in oil prices <\/a>was also supportive of the market, with Brent crude oil<\/a>\u00a0futures and front-end West Texas Intermediate<\/a>\u00a0crude sliding nearly 3%, each. <\/p>\n Wall Street posted another losing session on Wednesday, pressured by declines in tech. Reuters reported earlier in the day, citing individuals briefed on the matter, that Chinese customs authorities\u00a0advised customs agents<\/a>\u00a0this week that Nvidia’s H200 chips are not allowed to enter the country.<\/p>\n Banks also underperformed on Wednesday after Wells Fargo, Citigroup and Bank of America fell following the release of their earnings reports. <\/p>\n “The economy remains relatively stable … underlying all of this, corporate earnings remain relatively strong, and we continue to believe that 2026 is going to be really powered by earnings versus any sort of multiple expansion from here,” said Ayako Yoshioka, portfolio consulting director at Wealth Enhancement Group, on CNBC’s “Closing Bell.”<\/p>\n “At least at these levels, the bar is relatively high, and we can see some short-term disappointments just relative to expectations, but we think that these are all buying opportunities because the economic backdrop remains relatively stable,” Yoshioka added. <\/p>\n Trump edicts weigh on stocks this week<\/p>\n Geopolitical risks have weighed on investor sentiment this week. <\/p>\n
