Tony Romo faced plenty of criticism for his work<\/a> during Sunday\u2019s Bills-Jaguars wild-card round thriller. <\/p>\n

And he responded to all the heat\u2026 sort of. <\/p>\n

The \u201cNFL on CBS\u201d analyst joined Adam Schein on SiriusXM on Wednesday and revealed that he was battling an unspecified illness during the NFL playoff matchup.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a bunch of guys sick, we were just grinding through it. You\u2019re not going to miss a playoff game,\u201d Romo said. \u201cIt\u2019s too much fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the outset of the game, the ex-Cowboys quarterback was ripped apart by large swaths of viewers, and a particularly vocal contingent on social media that included Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy. <\/p>\n

His introduction to the game with play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz included trying to compare the Jaguars\u2019 situation to the Panthers\u2019 \u2014 who lost the day before in a heartbreaker to the Rams \u2014 while calling the Bills both an \u201cunderdog\u201d and an \u201coverdog.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think we\u2019ve ever seen it where it\u2019s like, who\u2019s going to win? Ummmm, I don\u2019t know!\u201d Romo said on air. \u201cI\u2019m pretty good at football knowledge and I don\u2019t know. Today\u2019s going to be very telling, though, because Jacksonville is a complete football team. Carolina did that yesterday. They earned the respect, almost won, but they didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

\u201cJacksonville is in that same situation. They could do it, this could be a major upset. Even though it\u2019s really not an upset, because the Bills are actually the underdog. But they\u2019re the overdog. We\u2019ll see today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schein, who has provided in-game highlight updates for NFL games on CBS this season, asked a follow-up to Romo about if he listens to any of the criticism.<\/p>\n

At the end of the day, Romo \u2014 who signed a 10-year, $180 million contract with CBS in 2020<\/a> \u2014 said it\u2019s about having \u201cfun.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think anytime you\u2019re in a position like we are, we\u2019re on the air for three and a half hours. You\u2019re always trying to do the best you can and everything,\u201d Romo said. \u201cThere\u2019s always going to be moments where always all this great stuff, and then other stuff. It\u2019s just part of being in your position. You just go back to work, and you do a great job. I mean, that\u2019s the fun part about this. It\u2019s sports, and it makes it fun. You\u2019re just trying to make everyone enjoy the show, and learn a little bit and have a great time. <\/p>\n

\u201cTo me, it\u2019s what makes sports amazing. It\u2019s fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Romo will again be with Nantz for the Bills-Broncos divisional round game on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
