\n\tEXCLUSIVE: After a buzzy festival run and boutique theatrical release, Ira Sachs<\/a>\u2019 latest feature, Peter Hujar\u2019s Day, has landed a U.S. streaming release date.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film will be added to The Criterion<\/a> Channel on January 27.<\/p>\n

\n\tStarring Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall, Peter Hujar\u2019s Day is a warm yet experimental chamber piece set around the re-creation of a real-life conversation that took place between photographer Peter Hujar (Whishaw) and writer Linda Rosenkrantz (Hall) in 1974.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe official Criterion synopsis reads: In 1974, acclaimed photographer Peter Hujar describes the routines and rituals that define an artist\u2019s life to his friend, the writer Linda Rosenkrantz, capturing a single day\u2019s activities in touching and funny detail: from interactions with cultural icons of the day, including Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs and Susan Sontag, to the texture and energy of downtown New York in its heyday. Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall star in the elegant and intimate new piece from filmmaker Ira Sachs (Passages) \u2014 a dazzling showcase for the two performers at its centre \u2014 that is both a masterful portrait of a time & place and a captivating film about the way art emerges from the intimate details of everyday life.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs part of the streaming release, Criterion has enlisted Sachs for its popular Meet The Filmmakers interview series, which will be available on the streamer. During the interview, Sachs discusses the origins of the project and how his screenplay differs from Linda Rosenkrantz\u2019s original transcript of her discussions with Hujar, which inspired the film.\u00a0<\/p>\n
