{"id":410132,"date":"2026-01-16T04:14:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T04:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/410132\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T04:14:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T04:14:08","slug":"local-dietitian-questions-new-food-pyramid-changes-inforum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/410132\/","title":{"rendered":"Local dietitian questions new food pyramid changes &#8211; InForum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FARGO \u2014 A local dietitian is weighing in on <\/p>\n<p>      <a class=\"Link \" href=\"https:\/\/realfood.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the new food pyramid<\/a><\/p>\n<p>      after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently announced changes.<\/p>\n<p>Registered dietitian Brittany Twiss at Sanford Health in Fargo says the new recommendations promote foods that cost more and might not fit in the budget for most people.<\/p>\n<p>She says this food pyramid is more confusing than the MyPlate model, which was used as a guide since the old food pyramid was retired in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The new food pyramid emphasizes whole foods like vegetables, fruits, animal-based proteins, dairy and healthy fats, while de-emphasizing grains, shifting away from MyPlate\u2019s balanced portions of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy.<\/p>\n<p>However, she notes, \u201cThe focus more on animal fat and animal proteins. That creates quite a bit of confusion with patients and among my fellow peers as well,\u201d Twiss said.<\/p>\n<p>Twiss says she hopes more efforts can go into making fruits and vegetables more affordable and accessible.<\/p>\n<p>\n                Kjersti Maday joined WDAY as a reporter in May of 2024.
