\n It\u2019s been a busy day for Venezuelan opposition leader Mar\u00eda Corina Machado and acting president Delcy Rodr\u00edguez, both of whom say they represent their country on the world stage.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u2022 Machado goes to Washington: The opposition leader told reporters Thursday that she had \u201cpresented\u201d US President Donald Trump with her Nobel Peace Prize medal<\/a> as a gift during an \u201cextraordinary\u201d meeting at the White House. Trump has long coveted the prize, but the committee that awards it has been clear that it cannot be shared or transferred<\/a>. \u201cA medal can change owners, but the title of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate cannot,\u201d it said in a post on X<\/a>.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u2022 Historic or not?: After her meeting with Trump, Machado told US lawmakers that the meeting with the president was \u201chistoric, not only for the future of Venezuela, but for the future of freedom in the world.\u201d However, Trump has previously indicated he does not think Machado has enough respect within Venezuela to govern \u2013 and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday that he had not changed his view.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u2022 Rodr\u00edguez calls for a \u201cdiplomatic battle\u201d with the US: Meanwhile, in Caracas, Rodr\u00edguez gave Venezuela\u2019s equivalent to the State of the Union address, telling lawmakers that Venezuela should engage in a \u201cdiplomatic battle<\/a>\u201d with the United States to defend its sovereignty. \u201cAll of Venezuela is being threatened,\u201d Rodr\u00edguez said, \u201cand that is why I call for national unity so that, with sovereignty foremost, we wage the diplomatic battle.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u2022 Rodr\u00edguez criticizes the US without mentioning Trump: During her speech, Rodr\u00edguez mentioned a \u201ccriminal economic blockade,\u201d an \u201ceconomic war,\u201d a \u201cnaval blockade aimed at encircling the country as an energy exporter,\u201d and an \u201carmed aggression by a nuclear power unlike anything that has ever occurred in history.\u201d However, she did not once directly mention the president of that nuclear power, Donald Trump.\n <\/p>\n
