The surgeon accused of killing his ex-wife and her dentist husband<\/a> at their Ohio home was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury Friday in connection with their murders.<\/p>\n

The five-count indictment handed down against Michael McKee<\/a> includes four counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated burglary \u2014 and said that at the time of the killings he was armed with a weapon equipped with a silencer. <\/p>\n

“McKee has a firearm that was equipped with a firearm muffler or suppressor on or about his person or under his control while committing the offense,” the indictment states. <\/p>\n

If convicted, McKee, 39, faces a maximum term of life in prison without parole.<\/p>\n

McKee, who lives in Chicago, is the ex-husband of Monique Tepe, 39, who was found dead with her 37-year-old husband, Spencer Tepe, last month at their Columbus home.<\/p>\n

He was arrested Saturday by agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Rockford, Illinois, about 90 miles west of Chicago, where he is listed as a vascular surgeon at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.<\/p>\n

McKee appeared in an Illinois courtroom Monday and was represented by a public defender who said the physician plans to plead not guilty. <\/p>\n

He is expected to be extradited to Columbus, but as of Friday he was still being held in the Winnebago County Jail in Rockford, police said.<\/p>\n

McKee was indicted two days after police said<\/a> that a weapon linked to the deaths of the couple was found at his home.<\/p>\n

So far, police have not revealed a motive for the murders. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we can say, this was a targeted attack,\u201d Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said Wednesday. \u201cThis was a domestic violence-related attack.\u201d<\/p>\n

There were no previous reports or calls involving the ex-husband at the Tepes\u2019 home, which the couple moved into in 2020, Bryant said.<\/p>\n

McKee and Monique Tepe married in 2015 and divorced because of \u201cincompatibility\u201d two years later, after they were already living separately, records show.<\/p>\n

Family members said they lived together for only seven months and alleged that McKee was emotionally abusive<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Tepes were discovered dead at their Columbus home on Dec. 30<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A friend of the slain dentist called 911 after he stopped by the Tepes\u2019 home to check on him and found him lying next to his bed in a puddle of blood. The couple\u2019s children were also in the home and were not harmed.<\/p>\n
