Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was pretty impressed with what he saw,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/16\/entertainment\/zak-starkey-claims-altercation-with-the-whos-roger-daltrey-got-him-fired\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">former Who drummer<\/a> added. \u201cBut that\u2019s literally all I know. I\u2019m not involved in Beatle business at all, really.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Director Sam Mendes officially announced his <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/01\/entertainment\/the-beatles-movies-cast-paul-mescal-harris-dickinson-barry-keoghan-joseph-quinn\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Beatles \u2013 A Four-Film Cinematic Event\u201d<\/a> biopic project last March.<\/p>\n<p>While Keoghan, 33, will depict Starr, Paul Mescal\u00a0has been cast as\u00a0Paul McCartney,\u00a0Harris Dickinson\u00a0as\u00a0John Lennon and\u00a0Joseph Quinn\u00a0as\u00a0George Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>Ringo Starr in 1966. Getty Images for Vanity Fair<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not just making one film about the\u00a0Beatles\u00a0\u2014 we\u2019re making four,\u201d Mendes, 60, said during\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/01\/entertainment\/the-beatles-movies-cast-paul-mescal-harris-dickinson-barry-keoghan-joseph-quinn\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his announcement at CinemaCon<\/a>\u00a0in March 2025. \u201cPerhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere had to be a way to tell the epic story for a new generation,\u201d the \u201cSkyfall\u201d director added. \u201cI can assure you there is still plenty left to explore, and I think we found a way to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mendes reportedly plans to release each of the four separate biopics on April 7, 2028, to create what he called \u201cthe first binge-able theatrical experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Director Sam Mendes, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, Barry Keoghan and Harris Dickinson announced \u201cThe Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event\u201d during CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 31, 2025. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Starkey shared his own thoughts about his dad\u2019s biopic and Keoghan portraying the \u201cAct Naturally\u201d singer during an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/zak-starkey-interview-the-who-oasis-the-beatles-ringo-starr-barry-keoghan-3872430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NME<\/a> back in June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGet a big rubber nose,\u201d he responded when asked if he had any advice for the \u201cSaltburn\u201d actor. \u201cI don\u2019t know what else to say. He doesn\u2019t look anything like my dad, does he? You can fix anything, can\u2019t you? You can certainly give someone a big rubber nose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thing about my dad is his personality. He sold the Beatles to America; he\u2019s the one with the charisma,\u201d Starkey added. \u201cPulling that off will be hard. He\u2019s just himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ringo Starr in 1964. Variety via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Starr opened up about the biopic and how he <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/04\/entertainment\/ringo-starr-demanded-script-changes-in-sam-mendes-beatles-biopic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spent two days offering \u201cextensive notes\u201d<\/a> to Mendes in an interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/07\/02\/arts\/music\/ringo-starr-interview.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Tk8.qhoK.ljBQF0z9qDG5&amp;smid=url-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The New York Times<\/a>\u00a0published in July.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cOctopus\u2019s Garden\u201d writer explained that most of his issues were tied to how his relationship with his first wife, Maureen Starkey Tigrett, was being portrayed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had a writer \u2013 very good writer, great reputation, and he wrote it great, but it had nothing to do with Maureen and I,\u201d the music icon, 85, said. \u201cThat\u2019s not how we were. Dave Benett\/Getty Images for Disney+<\/p>\n<p>Keoghan, meanwhile, revealed that he met and hung out with the Beatles legend shortly after the project was announced  \u2013 although he wouldn\u2019t play the drums for Starr.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI met him at his house, and he played the drums for me,\u201d the \u201cEternals\u201d actor said <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/08\/entertainment\/barry-keoghan-refused-to-play-drums-for-ringo-starr-ahead-of-beatles-biopic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">during an appearance on \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d<\/a> in May 2025. \u201cHe asked me to play, but I wasn\u2019t playing the drums for Ringo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was talking to him, I couldn\u2019t look at him. I was nervous, like right now. But he\u2019s like, \u2018You can look at me,&#8217;\u201d Keoghan continued. \u201cMy job is to observe and kinda take in mannerisms and study him. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Besides revealing how his dad feels about the upcoming Beatles biopic and sharing some advice to Keoghan, Starkey said that he is excited to see the film once it hits theaters in two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI go to all the Beatles premieres,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/04\/entertainment\/oasis-reunites-onstage-for-the-first-time-in-16-years\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">former Oasis drummer<\/a> told The Post before revealing that he still hasn\u2019t finished watching all of the band\u2019s most recent films.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I haven\u2019t watched \u2018Get Back\u2019 in its entirety yet,\u201d he shared. \u201cAnd I haven\u2019t seen \u2018Anthology\u2019 in its entirety yet, but I love that first \u2018Anthology.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Beatles: Get Back\u201d was a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/04\/beatles-get-back-a-reminder-of-universal-joy-of-fandom\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three-part documentary miniseries<\/a> directed and produced by\u00a0Peter Jackson. It covered the making of the Beatles\u2019 1970 record \u201cLet It Be\u201d and premiered on Disney+ in November 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Zak Starkey said that he is excited to see his dad\u2019s biopic once it hits theaters in April 2028. New York Post<\/p>\n<p>The former Who drummer hasn\u2019t yet finished watching \u201cThe Beatles: Get Back\u201d or \u201cThe Beatles Anthology.\u201d New York Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Beatles Anthology,\u201d meanwhile, was a six-part documentary series that first premiered in 1995 and centered on the band\u2019s nearly 10-year career. A nine-episode version of the project was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.disneyplus.com\/whats-on\/series\/the-beatles-anthology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">remastered and released on Disney+<\/a> this past November. <\/p>\n<p>As for his one-man show next month, Starkey is set to share stories, unseen photos and videos, and songs from his time playing with Ringo Starr\u2019s All Starr Band, The Who, Oasis, Johnny Marr and more.<\/p>\n<p>Called \u201cZak Starkey\u2026Who?: An Evening of Drums and Conversation,\u201d the gig will take place at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City on Feb. 20.<\/p>\n<p>Sshh Liguz and Zak Starkey during the premiere of \u201cThe Beatles: Get Back\u201d in London, England, on Nov. 16, 2021. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not one of those drummers who can sit down and impress you by just playing on my own. I\u2019m only as good as the food I\u2019m being fed,\u201d Starkey told The Post ahead of the one-man show. \u201cWhen I\u2019m playing with Pete Townshend, he\u2019s feeding me really good stuff. And when I\u2019m playing with Johnny Marr, they seem to know what I like to eat. Same with Noel Gallagher, and it was the same with [late Who bassist] John Entwistle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I just thought, well, I don\u2019t like doing drum solos,\u201d he added. \u201cSo let\u2019s think of how I can make it more of a celebration of all the music that I\u2019ve been involved in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Starkey went on to call it a \u201cblessing\u201d that he\u2019s \u201cnever had a gig that\u00a0I\u2019d call a job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZak Starkey\u2026 Who?: An Evening of Drums and Conversation\u201d debuts at the Gramercy Theatre on Feb. 20.
