UCLA<\/a> senior cornerback Jamier Johnson<\/a> has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal<\/a>, On3\u2019s Pete Nakos reports. His career began at Texas<\/a> before spending time at Indiana<\/a> prior to the jump to UCLA.<\/p>\n

In his lone season at UCLA, Johnson did not see the field. Across four previous seasons (two at Texas and two at Indiana), Johnson recorded 46 tackles, two pass deflections, and one interception.<\/p>\n

Prior to enrolling at\u00a0Texas, Johnson was ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 368 overall player in the\u00a02021 class<\/a>, according to the Rivals Industry Rating. He was the No. 33 CB in his class and the No. 30 overall player from the state of California, hailing from John Muir<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Johnson\u2019s departure from the program comes after UCLA hired former James Madison<\/a> head coach Bob Chesney<\/a>. Chesney led the Dukes to the College Football Playoff and replaces Deshaun Foster<\/a>, who was fired just three games into the season. During his introductory press conference, Chesney laid out the blueprint for winning at UCLA.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuccess looks like winning. That\u2019s what it looks like on a day-to-day basis,\u201d Chesney said. \u201cFor us, it is what we do in this program. Every single thing we do has winners and losers every single day. There will not be a day that goes by that we just kind of get by. That\u2019s, I think, really important. And that was, I think, the underlying theme in everything we\u2019ve done up to this point in time. We don\u2019t walk on the field on Saturdays, not having been there before, in almost every situational aspect you can imagine. Pressure on music playing at practice, right behind the quarterbacks. Those are all things that we have to do to prepare ourselves for game day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chesney replaced Curt Cignetti<\/a> at James Madison and continued to build on the now Indiana head coach\u2019s foundation. Across two seasons, Chesney led the Dukes to a 21-6 record with a respectable loss to Oregon<\/a> in the College Football Playoff.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Expectations) will have to be determined by our team when we get that fully assembled and moving forward next year, but then whatever our expectations are is where we build our standards and then the day-to-day process. I see zero reason why we cannot be competing for a championship.\u201d<\/p>\n
