Buried in an editorial from TheWrap critiquing Kathleen Kennedy\u2019s legacy at Lucasfilm as she hands the reins<\/a> of the franchise off to two executives is new information about Disney Plus projects tied to both Star Wars and Indiana Jones. One of the biggest reveals in the piece was that Rick Famuyiwa, one of the executive producers of The Mandalorian, had developed a series for Disney Plus that has not been greenlit.<\/p>\n

TheWrap<\/a> reports that Rick Famuyiwa was set to executive-produce a Star Wars Disney Plus show, but the project is now \u201cin limbo\u201d. That wording implies that the series could be picked up, but it appears that that is functionally encased in carbonite at this time, since Disney has changed their priorities for streaming. Rick Famuyiwa was promoted to an executive producer with all episodes of the third season of The Mandalorian, on top of being directly involved in the creative process on all three seasons of the show as a director, writer, and even as a guest actor, playing Jib Dodger, an X-wing pilot working for the New Republic. He also directed the Ahsoka Season 1 finale, so it is within reason that his unmade series may have also been related to the set of characters introduced into live-action with The Mandalorian.<\/p>\n

Further away from the galaxy far, far away, there were also somewhat ambitious plans for Indiana Jones on the streaming service that never fully materialized. Ages ago, it was mentioned that a live-action prequel series focused on Abner Ravenwood, the father of Indiana Jones\u2019s love interest Marion Ravenwood, was in development, but eventually scrapped. Also on the development room floor was a proposed series of animated shorts supervised by Star Wars Visions director Rodrigo Blaas, highlighting the additional adventures of Dr. Henry \u201cIndiana\u201d Jones Jr. set between the five movies. Much like plans for additional seasons for the Willow show, it appears that these were cut due to Disney opting to have Lucasfilm exclusively focus on Star Wars content going forward.<\/p>\n

This news follows Kennedy providing updates<\/a> on multiple scripts that initiated development under her leadership, some of which were put on hold due to external circumstances (such as it being speculated that James Mangold\u2019s film is on hold due to his deal with Paramount, or Donald Glover having to put multiple projects of his on hold during his recovery<\/a> from a recent health scare). Ultimately, it\u2019s up to the new leadership at Lucasfilm \u2013 and Disney as a whole, with Bob Iger set to re-retire at the end of 2026 after he names a new successor \u2013 to determine if any projects that she developed across film and television that weren\u2019t already past the greenlight phase will move forward.<\/p>\n
