GWAR<\/a> has released a surprising cover of Chappell Roan<\/a>\u2018s hit \u2018Pink Pony Club\u2019.<\/p>\n

The costumed metal band are the latest guests on The A.V. Club\u2019s latest season of A.V. Undercover, where they stopped by Chelsea Studios in New York City to transform the 2023 hit into a thrash metal song.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Pink Pony Club\u2019 is about embracing exile from a boring, shitty world and remaking yourself into whatever you want \u2014 be who you are, be who you aren\u2019t, piss people off, we don\u2019t care!\u201d said\u00a0the Berserker Bl\u00f3thar, GWAR\u2019s vocalist.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time GWAR have produced an \u201cintergalactic metal\u201d take<\/a> on an unexpected song \u2013 in 2024, they covered\u00a0\u2018I\u2019m Just Ken\u2019 from the Barbie<\/a>\u00a0movie.<\/p>\n

In addition, despite their differences in musical style, Roan and GWAR certainly share similar values. In November, Bl\u00f6thar the Berserker signed a bidet that was aucitioned by John Oliver to raise funds for public broadcasting. Bl\u00f6thar had previously hit out at the proposed cuts to public media<\/a>, which followed Trump\u00a0signing an executive order that would end the federal funding for organisations<\/a>\u00a0including NPR and PBS two months before.<\/p>\n

GWAR also came under fire from Trump supporters in September<\/a>\u00a0following their Riot Fest set. During their set at the Chicago festival, they continued their long-standing tradition of carrying out a mock execution on stage.<\/p>\n

Previous presidents\u00a0Joe Biden<\/a>,\u00a0Barack Obama<\/a>, George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan have all been the subject of the faux assassinations before, as have the likes of\u00a0Michael Jackson<\/a>\u00a0and Mike Tyson.<\/p>\n

When Trump and\u00a0Elon Musk<\/a>\u00a0were the targets in Chicago, it proved controversial. One person wrote, \u201cThat\u2019s not edgy, it\u2019s grotesque and reckless and normalises violence against a real person. This is not okay. Riot Fest and Gwar crossed a major line,\u201d while another simply said, \u201cThe left is truly sick.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band responded, saying in a statement to\u00a0Billboard<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0the idea they\u2019re normalising violence is \u201cabsurd\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not millionaires that are afraid of what people are going to say when they see what we do\u2026 We\u2019re a group of artists that makes art, and it\u2019s really the idea that what we have done is normalising violence\u2026 There\u2019s nothing normal about the violence that goes on at a Gwar show,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a cartoon, it\u2019s\u00a0Looney Tunes\u2026 It\u2019s trying to make violence into a spectacle and show humanity\u2019s absolute absurdity. That\u2019s what Gwar is, it\u2019s absurdism.
