{"id":413435,"date":"2026-01-17T18:34:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-17T18:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/413435\/"},"modified":"2026-01-17T18:34:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-17T18:34:07","slug":"wrexham-captain-james-mcclean-to-leave-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/413435\/","title":{"rendered":"Wrexham captain James McClean to leave club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wrexham have confirmed club captain James McClean is leaving the Championship club &#8220;to pursue another opportunity&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">McClean&#8217;s contract does not expire until the summer of 2027 but has been linked with a return to hometown club Derry City in the League of Ireland Premier Division.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 36-year-old former Republic of Ireland wideman has made more than 100 appearances for Wrexham in all competitions, scoring eight goals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Jimmy&#8217;s going on to pursue another opportunity that he&#8217;s looking at,&#8221; Wrexham CEO Mike Williamson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The club has yet to confirm when McClean, who has played a key role in two successive promotion campaigns, will leave. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Wrexham have confirmed club captain James McClean is leaving the Championship club &#8220;to pursue another opportunity&#8221;.
