After three years coaching linebackers, he was eager to take over the secondary, where he\u2019d played in college. He was not, however, so sure he wanted to change jobs.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfp04jj00013b6p74owytg4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It was 1978, and he\u2019d spent the past season at Syracuse University. While the Orange\u2019s 6-5 record didn\u2019t necessarily reflect it, Saban was fairly certain the staff was onto something and he thought he ought to stick around.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv100023b6pphphvkkh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            So when Frank Cignetti, Sr., called to offer him a job coaching the defensive backs at West Virginia \u2013 a team Syracuse had beaten 28-9 in the last game of the season \u2013 Saban was tempted but not entirely sold. He didn\u2019t know Cignetti personally and figured someone on his staff must have recommended him. Probably because of his West Virginia roots.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv100033b6pn0aurtma@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            So Saban mulled the decision only to find it wasn\u2019t his to make. Cignetti already had closed the deal.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv100043b6putolmggf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Terry Constable and Nick Saban met as seventh graders in Fairmont, West Virginia. She\u2019d gone with Nick to Kent State as an undergrad, the two marrying during the holiday break in 1971. She thought her husband was going into the car business like his father &#8211; the original plan was to go to General Motors school after graduation.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/gettyimages-500120378.jpg\" alt=\"Then-Alabama head coach Nick Saban celebrates with his wife, Terry, after the Crimson Tide won the SEC championship game in 2015.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"3456\" width=\"5184\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfp0wl100033b6p4d0abtrz@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Instead, while Terry finished her coursework, Nick took a job as a graduate assistant on the football team. Two years later, the would-be holdover gig turned into a full career pivot, and Nick chased his coaching dream to Syracuse, the first step in what would invariably be a far more nomadic career than the car business for the Sabans.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv100053b6pynu4gyl4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            And now here was Cignetti offering Terry an unbelievable gift \u2013 the chance to go home.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfp1pez00053b6pkb93tlbu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cFrank taught me to figure out who was the key in the recruiting process. Who\u2019s going to have the most influence? He was a master at that,\u2019\u2019 Saban told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/sport\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CNN Sports<\/a>. \u201cAnd in my case, it was Miss Terry.\u201d\u2019\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv100063b6pjwj95op9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Nearly 50 years later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/12\/19\/sport\/ncaa-college-football-james-madison\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Curt Cignetti<\/a> sat at a dais inside the College Football Hall of Fame, which counts both Frank Cignetti and Saban as members. He unspooled his own traveling football career, which covered six states and 10 schools, calling special attention to his three-year full-circle stop in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Curt says it was there, where the son of the man who hired Nick Saban in 1978 worked for Saban, that the seeds for Indiana\u2019s improbable rise were sown.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv100073b6pklzim3fl@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Who knows? Maybe Saban gets to know Curt Cignetti through some other coaching channels. But when he did actually hire him in 2007, it was at least in part because Miss Terry wanted to move home and two men \u2013 one who taught Curt to work hard and the other who showed him how to do the hard work \u2013 met in West Virginia.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv100093b6pzfouwt9n@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In the hometown newspaper obituary that celebrates the life of Frank Cignetti, Sr., his football coaching career is told in only the broadest of strokes. How he was a highly successful and respected coach whose football family \u201cgrew by generations and to this day stands as a testament to his life\u2019s work.\u2019\u2019\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfp5chs00073b6pfp0f718h@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There is an acknowledgment that Frank was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, but no mention of the 180 wins that earned his place in the Hall or the field that bears his name at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000a3b6p3aohloho@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Instead, the obituary celebrates the life of a high school star athlete nicknamed \u201cHoopo\u201d who grew into his adult moniker, \u201cBig Guy.\u201d It tells of a man of great integrity who cherished his family and his faith and felt enormous gratitude to the doctors and nurses who guided him through a near-death run-in with cancer so that he could inspire others and help.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000b3b6p487gfo6z@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Those who found their way to the Boylan Funeral Home memorial page to share their memories after Frank\u2019s passing in 2022 told of his sage wisdom and unwavering loyalty. \u201cBig Guy was a father to all of us players,\u2019\u2019 wrote Jai Hill, a two-time All-American at IUP, echoing the sentiments of many.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000c3b6pv6f93zi3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The youngest of six born to Italian immigrants who found their way to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1905, Frank was the typical straight and narrow blue-collar kid from Western Pennsylvania. Newspapers from his high school days are filled with his exploits at Washington Township High School and his talents spilled over to Indiana State Teachers College (now IUP) where he starred in football and basketball. His son, like the folks who remembered Frank after his passing, calls Frank a \u201crole model,\u2019\u2019 who led by example.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000d3b6p9guzdrzy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            He also likened him to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/05\/26\/entertainment\/gallery\/tbt-john-wayne\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Wayne<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/11\/09\/entertainment\/gallery\/clint-eastwood-film-history-ent-photos\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clint Eastwood<\/a>, which just might be where Curt\u2019s infamous stoicism comes from.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1768751170_329_2026-01-01t211417z-1459579205-mt1usatoday27916125-rtrmadp-3-ncaa-football-rose-bowl-alabama-at-india.jpeg\" alt=\"Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti and his team before the Rose Bowl win against Alabama.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"3129\" width=\"4693\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000e3b6p3nfjveee@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Father and son came at their coaching careers from different directions. Curt didn\u2019t get a big-time job until he was 62; his pop was just 38 when he succeeded Bobby Bowden at West Virginia. Curt went to IUP as a stepping stone in his head-coaching career and then soared immediately when he finally got his big chance, taking a lifelong listless program to unprecedented new heights. Frank struggled at West Virginia, fired after his fourth season and then contentedly retreated and stayed at the Division III level, making his mark as a Hall of Famer there.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000f3b6p0lzw5wss@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Yet Frank\u2019s handprints are everywhere on his son\u2019s career and his successes, even in the lessons hard learned.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfphahk000e3b6pjoloedmh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Curt was just a kid when the family moved to Morgantown so Frank could become an assistant to Bowden. It was a young boy\u2019s dream. The West Virginia football facilities were Curt\u2019s playground, the Mountaineers were winning and as an assistant, Frank was not in the direct line of fire.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfphl4g000g3b6pz9u6kcai@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But things shifted when Bowden left. Frank inherited a program that lost 32 players to graduation and still had some shoddy facilities. By the time Saban arrived in year three, Frank had suffered back-to-back 5-6 seasons, West Virginia\u2019s first losing records in 10 years. Fans were twitchy and the administration grew impatient.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000g3b6pqilqelqk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            At the end of that second year, in November 1978, Frank spiked a 103-degree fever for a month. By December he was admitted to the hospital for what would be a 39-day stay, 30 of which he spent on a respirator. Confounded doctors failed to find a diagnosis, even as Frank underwent a splenectomy and another surgery for a blocked intestine.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfpimu3000i3b6pdebtrg34@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In late December, the Associated Press reported they\u2019d narrowed it down \u201cfour different things,\u2019\u2019 including tuberculosis. When a diagnosis finally came \u2013 lymphoid granulomatosis \u2013 it was hardly a relief. Even now, with medical advancements, the cancer carries a 14-month survival rate.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000h3b6pvp5mpjs9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Miraculously, Frank beat the odds, undergoing intensive treatments and chemotherapy that left him weakened but he returned to coaching for the 1979 season. Saban watched amazed.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfpj09o000k3b6pwxwnktxo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt was such a tough time for Frank and his family,\u2019\u2019 Saban says. \u201cThe rest of us were just trying to make things work.\u2019\u2019\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfpj3zj000m3b6p1fjkvnfz@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The miracle did not carry over the gridiron. Though the Mountaineers righted an 0-3 start to win five of their next six, they limped to the finish, losing to Pitt and Arizona State to close out the season.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000i3b6plwy0fae0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The school fired Frank at the end of the season. Saban moved on to Ohio State and Frank took a desk job within the athletic department. A somewhat embittered Curt reluctantly agreed to stay and play for Don Nehlen.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000j3b6pct43kqzx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It is unfair to draw a direct line from father to son. People are unique creatures, and Saban is understandably hesitant to lump two people into one. Yet it is impossible now, with the benefit of hindsight, not to see Frank\u2019s imprint on his son\u2019s career.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000k3b6p1z1r0j7d@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Even as Frank fought losing and then fought cancer, he exuded the same eternal optimism that friends would later remark about on his memorial page. No one would necessarily accuse Curt of being perky and wide-eyed. It does, however, take a special sort of belief to insist Indiana could be good at football despite all evidence to the contrary.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000l3b6pnaffbzlu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Saban said Frank was more \u201cengaging,\u2019\u2019 while Curt is more \u201cself assured,\u2019\u2019 but saw in both more than just focus on bright football minds and a commitment to detail.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfpwilr000o3b6p8s7inwfn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cHonestly, both had strong beliefs in the things they wanted to do and how they were going to do it,\u2019\u2019 Saban says.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/gettyimages-2178574689.jpg\" alt=\"Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti watches his team play Northwestern in October 2024.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1792\" width=\"2687\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000m3b6p88pw632e@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In 1982, Frank returned to his alma mater as athletic director and four years later, when his head coach, George Chaump left for Marshall, Frank took over as head coach. In his second season, IUP was in the Division II playoffs. By the time Frank retired in 2005, he\u2019d put together a 182-50-1 record, coached 11 first-team All-Americans and led his team to a top 20 finish in every season he coached.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfpwx1y000q3b6pwle7g7tt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI\u2019ve never questioned that I could coach, never questioned that at all,\u2019\u2019 Frank told the AP in 1989. \u201cComing here and having to prove myself was never one of my hidden agendas. I always knew I could coach.\u2019\u2019\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000n3b6pdashw99c@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Not quite, \u201cI win. Google me.\u2019\u2019 But not entirely different, either.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000p3b6pf0iynn33@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            As Saban climbed his own coaching ladder, he stayed in touch with Frank. In 2002, in fact, Saban suggested to Elice Parker, his third-string running back at LSU, that he transfer to IUP. He ran for a record 1,125 yards that season for Frank.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000q3b6pdhgesxnj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            By the time Saban got to Alabama, Curt had been picking his way through assistant jobs. What he hadn\u2019t done a lot was win. From 1983 to 2006, Curt had worked at the University of Pittsburgh (twice), Davidson, Rice, Temple and North Carolina State. He had six winning seasons to show for it.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000r3b6pxyj206jp@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            So it was obvious why Curt wanted to join Alabama, but why Saban wanted Curt? Well, that went back decades.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkfpxrpp000s3b6pt5ylc3gq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI think there\u2019s always a little bit of comfort when you know someone, know what they\u2019re like from a character standpoint,\u2019\u2019 Saban said. \u201cWhen you know a person when they\u2019re young, you know what kind of person they are, the competitive nature they had, the work ethic. That\u2019s Saban.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000y3b6pxjgo3qzq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The one who has learned to evaluate talent for what it is and not the stars next to their names, who has honed his relationship skills so that he knows what button to push with whom every time? That\u2019s Frank sweet-talking Miss Terry into coming to West Virginia.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv1000z3b6pq0rhzjvm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cSurprised? No I\u2019m not surprised at all that he would turn around a program as he has and be successful,\u2019\u2019 Saban said. \u201cWe all develop our processes throughout the years. Your process, my process, it comes from the mentors we\u2019ve had. You\u2019re constantly saying, \u2018If I get the opportunity, this is how I\u2019d do it,\u2019 or maybe, \u2018This is how I wouldn\u2019t do it.\u2019 That\u2019s what Curt has done. It was the first time he\u2019d seen it in person. By the time Frank was getting inducted, Curt was in his third year at IUP, trying to build a program.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv100123b6pe2m1jgdy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The induction ceremony came in August, held at the Omni in Atlanta while the actual Hall was being built. Curt didn\u2019t make it. \u201cWe were in fall camp at IUP,\u2019\u2019 he says, \u201cand I wasn\u2019t going to miss practice.\u2019\u2019\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkeffbv100133b6pj63zbend@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            His dad would have understood.
