DETROIT \u2013 Detroit Red Wings broadcast analyst Mickey Redmond will take a medical leave of absence, the team announced Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Redmond is scheduled to undergo cervical spine fusion surgery next week to address chronic neck issues.<\/p>\n
He is expected to be out until sometime after the NHL\u2019s Olympic break.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been an incredible season so far in Hockeytown, and I\u2019m looking forward to being back behind the microphone for our exciting playoff run,\u201d Redmond said.<\/p>\n
The Wings have eight games remaining before the NHL breaks for next month\u2019s 2026 Olympics in Milan.<\/p>\n
\u201cMickey has the support of his Red Wings family, and we appreciate that he\u2019s prioritizing health,\u201d the Red Wings said in a statement. \u201cMickey decided to wait on having this procedure until a time that was best for the broadcast, for the team, and ultimately for the fans \u2014 a great example of what an incredible teammate he is both on and off the air. Everyone in the organization will keep him in our thoughts and will do anything needed to support his recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
Redmond is in his 47th year calling NHL games and his 41st season with Detroit.<\/p>\n
