Donald Trump\u2019s White House mouthpiece Steven Cheung has furiously attacked the Nobel Foundation for pointing out their awards cannot be regifted\u2014even to presidents.<\/p>\n

The 79-year-old president has said for months he believes he deserves the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize. He lost out in October to Venezuelan opposition leader Mar\u00eda Corina Machado.<\/p>\n

Last week, Machado presented him with<\/a> her Nobel medal \u201cas a personal symbol of gratitude\u201d on behalf of Venezuelans and in recognition of Trump\u2019s \u201cprincipled and decisive action to secure a free Venezuela.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president gleefully accepted the second-hand award, which Machado had mounted in a gold frame to add to Trump\u2019s shiny Oval Office haul.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the Nobel Foundation pointed out<\/a> it was duty-bound to \u201csafeguard the dignity\u201d of the Nobel prizes. It issued a statement that said the prizes are awarded to those who \u201chave conferred the greatest benefit to humankind.\u201d <\/p>\n

The Foundation added that a prize cannot \u201cbe passed on or further distributed\u201d even symbolically. <\/p>\n

Cheung, the White House director of communications, lost it at the Nobel Foundation in a post on X<\/a> Sunday, raging that it had now issued \u201cmultiple statements\/comments\u201d on Trump receiving Machado\u2019s award.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead of trying to play politics, they should highlight the President\u2019s unprecedented accomplishments,\u201d Cheung wrote, stating Trump \u201crightfully deserves\u201d the award for \u201cbringing peace to at least eight wars.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Beast has contacted the White House for comment.<\/p>\n

MAGA podcast host Katie Miller, who is married to White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen, also shared the Nobel Foundation X post, curiously adding<\/a>, \u201cThey just mad about Greenland.\u201d The Nobel Foundation is based in Stockholm, Sweden, although the Peace Prize is actually awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Institute. Trump slapped a 10 percent tariff on goods from Sweden last week for its opposition to his proposed Greenland takeover. Sweden, along with France, Germany, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands and the U.K., has sent small numbers of troops to the autonomous Danish territory.<\/p>\n

Trump has insisted that the U.S. will take Greenland \u201cone way or another<\/a>,\u201d despite pushback from European leaders.<\/p>\n

Machado told Fox & Friends Weekend on Saturday she still wanted to give Trump the award, despite being told by the Nobel Foundation it was against their rules.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe deserves it,\u201d Machado said. \u201cIt was very emotional moment. I decided to present the Nobel Peace Prize medal on behalf of the people of Venezuela.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fox co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy also raised Trump\u2019s comments that Machado was \u201ca very nice woman\u201d but that \u201cshe doesn\u2019t have the respect\u201d to be leader after the capture of Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro by U.S. troops, and wondered if she believed the president\u2019s opinion of her had changed after she gave him her Nobel Peace Prize.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I think so,\u201d she said. \u201cI hope we will turn into friends. I hope to have a chance to have another conversation with him. But I\u2019m very impressed with the meeting, it was absolutely sincere on both sides.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sources told The Washington Post<\/a> earlier this month that Trump had not endorsed Machado to replace Maduro after he was ousted by U.S. forces because she had committed the \u201cultimate sin\u201d of not turning down the Nobel Peace Prize last October, and recommending it go to the president instead. <\/p>\n

Conservative Machado won the prestigious award for her struggle to rescue Venezuela from its fate as \u201ca brutal, authoritarian state\u201d.<\/p>\n

She was unable to accept the award in person at a December ceremony, arriving hours later. Machado went into hiding<\/a> shortly after being blocked from running in the July 2024 election. She was replaced by retired diplomat Edmundo Gonz\u00e1lez. Reports suggested<\/a> Gonz\u00e1lez likely received more than twice the votes of Maduro. His government threatened to arrest her<\/a>, calling her a terrorist for protesting the election results.<\/p>\n

She now joins a handful of Nobel Peace Prize recipients who parted with their medals, including Norwegian author Knut Hamsun, who gifted his medal to Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels \u201cas a gesture of thanks\u201d for a meeting they had during World War II. <\/p>\n
