{"id":418881,"date":"2026-01-20T14:46:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T14:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/418881\/"},"modified":"2026-01-20T14:46:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T14:46:11","slug":"dwight-yorke-claims-chelsea-star-can-make-united-title-contenders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/418881\/","title":{"rendered":"Dwight Yorke Claims Chelsea Star Can Make United Title Contenders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sportsnaut.com\/tag\/manchester-united-fc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Manchester United<\/a> legend Dwight Yorke is one of a growing list of former players who have expressed their thoughts at the club\u2019s downward spiral since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.<\/p>\n<p>Yorke, who was part of United\u2019s historic treble-winning campaign in 1999, has now urged the club\u2019s hierarchy to address issues in midfield this January with a signing from Premier League archrivals, <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsnaut.com\/tag\/chelsea-fc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chelsea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Devils currently have a mix of young players like Kobbie Mainoo and experienced stars like Casemiro in their squad.<\/p>\n<p>But Dwight Yorke believes a key Chelsea star could turn United into genuine title contenders again if the club brings him over to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"788\" height=\"525\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Dwight-Yorke-Claims-26-Year-Old-Chelsea-Star-Can-Make-United-Title-Contenders-26494971.jpg\" alt=\"Dwight Yorke \" class=\"wp-image-1393534\"  \/>Troy Taormina-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>Man United urged to sign Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo<\/p>\n<p>According to the current Trinidad and Tobago head coach, a move for the Ecuadorian star would help United mount a serious title challenge in the league.<\/p>\n<p>Dwight Yorke made this known while speaking in a recent interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footitalia.com\/news\/dwight-yorke-interview\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FootItalia<\/a>, arguing that the current options at Old Trafford can\u2019t really control the game in the centre of the park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the qualities that Manchester United have had in the past is a good number six, who can really sit in that midfield, conduct the style of play, and influence the team,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an area we thought Casemiro would have filled. He looked very good when he first arrived, but he\u2019s not getting any younger. So, it\u2019s an area United will need to address.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yorke further stated that the United midfield needs someone who can greatly exert influence and \u201cget around the place\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho else is out there that can fill that role and really influence the game? You\u2019ve got to be mobile, you\u2019ve got to be athletic enough to get around the place, and also control the game and the tempo,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen if United make a move for Yorke\u2019s preferred choice in midfield.
