David Datro Fofana is on the list of strikers Celtic have been linked with this month, but Chelsea\u2019s valuation on the 23-year-old suggests it may be a non-starter.<\/p>\n

The Premier League side recalled the Ivorian from his loan spell at Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk and are actively looking to move him on permanently. The motivation is straightforward. They want squad space, and they want their money back.<\/p>\n

Fabrizio Romano<\/a> confirmed the recall, with Chelsea making it clear Fofana is not part of their plans and is available for sale. There\u2019s no suggestion of another loan. This is a permanent exit or nothing.<\/p>\n

That immediately sharpens the picture for Celtic and any other potential suitors.<\/p>\n

Fofana\u2019s numbers in Turkey are solid<\/a>. Eight goals in 15 appearances is a return that catches the eye, particularly in a struggling Karagumruk side where chances are not falling from the sky. He has looked quick, direct and confident, traits Celtic have been short of this season.<\/p>\n

Chelsea signed him from Molde for around \u00a310 million, a deal that made sense at the time, given his profile and age. It has not worked out in London, and they are now briefing that they want to recoup that full fee if he leaves (Glasgow World<\/a>); that valuation being the key issue.<\/p>\n

Celtic<\/a> do not spend \u00a310 million lightly, and they certainly do not do it for squad depth. Any striker arriving at that price point would be expected to hit the ground running. Fofana has potential, but he has yet to show the level of consistency that would justify that outlay in this market.<\/p>\n

There is also the wider context of Celtic\u2019s January business. Martin O\u2019Neill<\/a> has said progress is being made, and the club have form for walking away when numbers drift beyond what they believe a player is worth.<\/p>\n

Chelsea\u2019s position sends a clear message to interested clubs. This is not a bargain hunt. They are not in the business of cutting their losses quietly.<\/p>\n
