Sorry, haters. Creed won and you lost. <\/p>\n

At the turn of century, Tallahassee founded band Creed rode a post-flannel sound for hits like \u201cHigher,\u201d \u201cMy Own Prison,\u201d \u201cOne\u201d and \u201cWith Arms Wide Open.\u201d Sold tens of millions of albums. Won a Grammy. Headlined big tours. <\/p>\n

All while being a punching bag for rock critics and a punchline for millions of unconverted music listeners. To the point where in the aughts Creed became a lazy synonym for \u201cthings that suck,\u201d along with Canadian rockers Nickelback.<\/p>\n

But in the 2020s, after a 10 year hiatus, Creed\u2019s doing big business again on the road. The band\u2019s 2024 show here in Alabama, at since demolished Oak Mountain Amphitheatre<\/a> in the Birmingham area, sold out. This year, Creed\u2019s ongoing \u201cSummer of \u201999 Tour\u201d includes two Alabama shows: July 22 at Huntsville\u2019s Orion Amphitheater<\/a> and July 24 at Orange Beach\u2019s Wharf Amphitheater<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Tickets for both go on sale 10 a.m. CT Friday, via axs.com<\/a> for Orion and ticketmaster.com<\/a> for Wharf. Tickets for Orange Beach range from $39.50 to $225. Prices for Huntsville weren\u2019t readily available.<\/p>\n

Opening acts include Mammoth, the band fronted by Wolfgang Van Halen<\/a>, son of guitar great Eddie Van Halen<\/a>, and 2000s sleaze rockers Hinder,<\/a> known for hits including \u201cLips Of An Angel\u201d and \u201cBetter Than Me.\u201d Mammoth\u2019s signature songs include \u201cDon\u2019t Back Down\u201d and \u201cDistance,\u201d Wolfgang\u2019s stirring ode to his dearly departed dad<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In recent years, Creed\u2019s undergone a reappraisal. Many music fans of a certain demographic now proudly share their love for Creed\u2019s anthemic classic material. Even the press has come around some. <\/p>\n

Nineties rap-rock orangutans Limp Bizkit have enjoyed a similar resurgence. Today, Creed\u2019s \u201cHigher\u201d and Limp Bizkit\u2019s song \u201cNookie\u201d have resumed their rightful place as undeniable, crank the car-stereo-volume jams. Zero shame.<\/p>\n

Creed\u2019s catalog includes 1999 sophomore album \u201cHuman Clay,\u201d which has sold more than 11 million copies in the U.S. For context, other albums in that sales range include: Led Zeppelin\u2019s \u201cHouse of the Holy,\u201d Michael Jackson\u2019s \u201cBad,\u201d The Beatles\u2019 \u201cSgt. Pepper\u2019s Lonely Hearts Club Band\u201d and Britney Spears\u2019 \u201cOops!… I Did It Again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Creed\u2019s 1997 debut album \u201cMy Own Prison\u201d and 2001 third LP \u201cWeathered\u201d moved more than 6 million copies each. Their last studio album was 2009\u2019s \u201cFull Circle.\u201d Last year they released the compilation \u201cBest of Creed\u201d and \u201cLive in San Antonio.\u201d <\/p>\n

The band\u2019s lineup features classic members Scott Stapp on vocals, guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips and bassist Brian Marshall. Rhythm guitarist Brian Brasher augments the band on tour. <\/p>\n

In the early 2000s, Stapp battled personal demons, and he and the band parted ways. The other members of band started a new successful group, Alter Bridge, fronted by Myles Kennedy<\/a>, who went on to become the singer for Guns N\u2019 Roses guitar hero Slash<\/a>\u2019s solo band. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sorry, haters.
