ASHEVILLE, N.C. \u2014 Another case of measles has been confirmed in Buncombe County<\/a>, with exposure locations in Candler and Asheville.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The infected person is a child who is now in isolation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Anyone who visited the Food Lion on 35 Westridge Market Place, Candler, between 6 p.m – 8 p.m. on Jan. 13 or the Mission Hospital Emergency Department Waiting Room in Asheville between 5:15-7:50 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.-12 a.m. on Jan. 26 may have been exposed and should contact a health care provider.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Individuals who suspect they have been exposed to measles in Buncombe County can call 828-250-6100 for further guidance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Those who have been exposed and have symptoms should get tested but officials urge calling their doctor, hospital, clinic or any health care location ahead of time so they can limit exposure to other patients.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Measles symptoms may take 7 to 21 days to appear. Typical symptoms may include:\u00a0<\/p>\n

High fever (may exceed 104\u00b0F)CoughRunny noseRed, watery eyesTiny white spots inside the mouth (Koplik spots)A red, blotchy rash that typically starts on the face and spreads to the rest of the body <\/p>\n

Getting the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is the best way to protect from contracting measles. Two doses are 97% effective for preventing infection.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Measles can cause complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis (brain swelling) and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n
