The decision came less than three years after the Cowboys signed Diggs to a five-year, $97 million <a class=\"nfl-o-cta--link nfl-o-cta--underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/cowboys-cb-trevon-diggs-five-year-97-million-contract-extension\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">extension<\/a> that preceded a season-ending ACL injury in 2023 and a tumultuous journey that followed both on and off the field.<\/p>\n<p>Diggs&#8217; contract &#8212; a lucrative agreement that became a bloated one due to his lack of production &#8212; already placed him on a track to be released after the 2025 season. Instead of waiting for the offseason, the Cowboys decided to cut ties in December, freeing Diggs to join a title-contending squad with the expectation he&#8217;d likely be released by his new team after their season ended.<\/p>\n<p>Green Bay did exactly that on Tuesday, freeing up the entirety of the $15 million he was scheduled to account for in cap space in 2026.
