\n\tDavid Beckham<\/a> is addressing the \u201cmistakes\u201d that can be made on social media following revealing Instagram Stories posted by his son Brooklyn Beckham<\/a> on Monday. In the posts, Brooklyn accused his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, of controlling \u201cnarratives in the press about our family\u201d and \u201ctrying endlessly to ruin my relationship\u201d with his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham, among other claims.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Tuesday, Beckham appeared on\u00a0CNBC\u2019s financial program\u00a0Squawk Box<\/a> and discussed the power \u2014 and potential dangers \u2014 of social media. \u201cI\u2019ve always spoke about social media and the power of social media, for the good and for the bad,\u201d the Inter Miami CF owner said. \u201cThe bad, we\u2019ve talked about, what kids can access these days and it can be dangerous. But\u00a0what I\u2019ve found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tBeckham added that he has used his platform to support UNICEF. \u201cIt\u2019s been the biggest tool to make people aware of what\u2019s going on around the world for children, and I\u2019ve tried to do the same,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\n\tWithout naming any of his children directly, Beckham mentioned his kids as examples. He and Victoria share four children: sons Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and daughter Harper Seven.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes. Children are allowed to make mistakes. That\u2019s how they learn. So, that\u2019s what I try to teach my kids,\u201d the former professional footballer continued. \u201cYou have to sometimes let them make those mistakes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBeckham\u2019s comments come after Brooklyn\u2019s lengthy Instagram Stories<\/a>, which confirmed a family rift after months of speculation. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private,\u201d Brooklyn wrote. \u201cUnfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed. I do not want to reconcile with my family. I\u2019m not being controlled, I\u2019m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cFor my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they\u2019ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBrooklyn also alleged that his mother \u201chijacked my first dance with my wife\u201d and \u201cdanced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone,\u201d making him feel \u201cuncomfortable\u201d and \u201chumiliated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first,\u201d he wrote. \u201cFamily \u2018love\u2019 is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it\u2019s at the expense of our professional obligations. We\u2019ve gone out of our way for years to show up and support at every fashion show, every party, and every press activity to show \u2018our perfect family.\u2019 But the one time my wife asked for my mum\u2019s support to save displaced dogs during the L.A. fires, my mum refused.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe then denied rumors that his wife controls him. \u201cThe narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my\u00a0life.
