(WTOC) &#8211; Savannah\u2019s historic Lucas Theatre has been temporarily closed after bats were discovered in the theatre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials with SCAD say the bats were found in the theatre\u2019s rafters. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As a result, they have closed the theatre along with their in-house cafe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A film screening scheduled for this week (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scad.edu\/event\/2026-01-22-step-plate-natural-trustees-theater-screening\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.scad.edu\/event\/2026-01-22-step-plate-natural-trustees-theater-screening\">The Natural<\/a>) has been moved to SCAD\u2019s Trustees Theater.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A representative from SCAD says though the bats have not caused any harm, their staff is taking immediate steps to ensure the continued safety of guests and staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Anyone with questions about an upcoming event at the Lucas Theatre is asked to reach out to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scadboxoffice.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.scadboxoffice.com\/\">SCAD\u2019s Box Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>See the university\u2019s full statement below:<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-2\">SCAD has temporarily closed Savannah\u2019s historic Lucas Theatre for the Arts and the adjacent cafe after bats were discovered in the theatre\u2019s rafters. SCAD has engaged a licensed wildlife management company to humanely remove the bats in full compliance with state and federal wildlife protection guidelines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-2\">While the bats have not caused any harm, SCAD has taken immediate steps to ensure the continued safety of guests and staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-2\">A film screening scheduled for this week has been moved to SCAD\u2019s Trustees Theater.\u00a0 Scheduled events for the rest of this month are being reviewed in coordination with event organizers to determine appropriate next steps. The bat removal process could be completed as early as next week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-2\">SCAD appreciates the community\u2019s patience and understanding.
