While carrying President Donald Trump, Air Force One took a U-turn shortly after taking off for Davos, Switzerland, where Trump is scheduled to speak on Wednesday at the World Economic Forum.<\/p>\n
CNN reported on Tuesday night that the plane had experienced a \u201csmall mechanical issue\u201d and was heading back to Andrews Air Force Base. The plane has since landed.<\/p>\n
On CNN NewsNight, Abby Phillip interrupted her panel to go to White House Correspondent Kristen Holmes, who reported that a source familiar with the matter said that \u201cAir Force One did turn around moments ago.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd this is because of what they are calling a small mechanical issue,\u201d Holmes said. \u201cThey are saying that it is not serious, but that they needed to return back and that President Trump is still going to go to Davos, but he will be taking a backup plane. So, likely what we\u2019re going to see is an entire deplaning of the president and his team and getting up on one of these backup planes that is waiting right now, currently at Andrews Air Force Base.\u201d<\/p>\n
Later, on Laura Coates Live, Holmes said the issue was \u201celectrical\u201d in nature, and added that a reporter aboard the plane told her that shortly after takeoff, the lights went out.<\/p>\n
At 11:34 p.m., CBS White House Correspondent Ed O\u2019Keefe reported<\/a> that members of the press pool traveling aboard Air Force One were instructed to get back on the original aircraft after deplaning:<\/p>\n UPDATE: After standing on the tarmac for about five minutes, the White House press pool was instructed to get back on the original aircraft after the White House told told reporters they couldn\u2019t be on the tarmac or \u201cin the flight line.\u201d No guidance yet on whether the president is indeed getting off to board a new plane.<\/p>\n At 11:49 p.m., O\u2019Keefe posted<\/a> a pool report stating that members of the press boarded the new jet, but reporters did not see the president getting off the old plane to board the new one:<\/p>\n While holding on original Air Force One, your pool saw a lot of commotion, including several staffers deplaning with their bags, including [Karoline] Leavitt and [Kevin] Hassett. The crew on the plane was hustling to make the transition, quickly moving boxes of fruit, wrapped sandwiches and beverages in and out. At least one ran past the press cabin. Others, outside on the ground, were seen pulling about a dozen suitcases off the plane and placing them onto a truck.
