FOX 11 LA<\/p>\n<p>Residents in El Segundo say they have been locked in a relentless fight against mosquitoes for nearly two months, swatting and spraying at all hours of the day and night, with little sign of improvement. FOX 11 LA<\/p>\n<p>Locals have been swatting and spraying for months, sometimes for hours at a time. But the mosquitoes continue to overrun their yards and homes, and are making it hard to carry out daily routines or even sleep at night, they said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sounds are constant,\u201d resident Truman Hedding told Fox 11, referring to the repeated zap of electric mosquito swatters.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you get them, it\u2019s the best, most satisfying thing in the world \u2014 but it never ends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Residents say the mosquito surge began nearly two months ago and has only intensified.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are covered in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/31\/health\/ivermectin-could-be-the-key-to-curbing-malaria\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">mosquito bites<\/a> every night,\u201d Samantha Hedding told Fox 11. \u201cMy kids have welts. We\u2019re late to school because we\u2019re up until 4 or 5 in the morning killing mosquitoes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said the insects are getting inside homes despite residents taking extreme precautions.<\/p>\n<p>Many describe the infestation as overwhelming, saying mosquitoes have overrun yards and made their way inside homes, disrupting sleep and daily routines. Every door is locked, every window is sealed,\u201d Hedding said. \u201cIf a door opens, we all freak out. The weather has been beautiful, but we can\u2019t enjoy it. We can\u2019t open our windows or doors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city said it has been working to address this issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl Segundo is working aggressively with the City of Los Angeles and Vector Control to find the sources of this <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/24\/lifestyle\/mosquitoes-takes-over-entire-plane\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">massive infestation<\/a>,\u201d El Segundo Mayor Chris Pimentel told Fox 11. \u201cWe are making progress in the northern part of the outbreak and are focused on the six blocks that are still under siege.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"That\u2019s gnasty.
