{"id":420739,"date":"2026-01-21T12:09:26","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T12:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/420739\/"},"modified":"2026-01-21T12:09:26","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T12:09:26","slug":"utah-medicaid-fails-to-collect-nearly-50-million-in-drug-rebates-state-auditor-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/420739\/","title":{"rendered":"Utah Medicaid fails to collect nearly $50 million in drug rebates, State Auditor report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SALT LAKE CITY \u2014 The State of Utah may have failed to collect nearly $50 million, all from drug manufacturing companies. <a href=\"https:\/\/reporting.auditor.utah.gov\/servlet\/servlet.FileDownload?file=015Do000000rXlHIAU\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">An audit released Thursday<\/a> found a Medicaid software upgrade three years ago has been failing to apply for drug rebates.<\/p>\n<p>The State Auditor, Tina Cannon, told KSL it\u2019s possible that money is gone for good. She says her biggest concern with this report is that the issue was flagged years ago and it\u2019s just now being addressed.<\/p>\n<p>Every year the state auditor\u2019s office takes a deep dive into all federal funding coming into the state, including Medicaid run by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). In response to budget cuts, DHHS transitioned some of their computer systems to an outside vendor back in 2023. Almost immediately, auditors flagged the rebate system.<\/p>\n<p>Cannon said, \u201cThis is the third time we have had this same finding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, DHHS says they are working on submitting those missed claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur concern is there is an expiration date on these reimbursements. And typically it\u2019s the end of the next quarter,\u201d explained Cannon.<\/p>\n<p>DHHS says that at this point, they have worked with the vendor to fix the rebate invoice system and have a plan to submit all claims moving forward.
