{"id":421993,"date":"2026-01-22T02:26:19","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T02:26:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/421993\/"},"modified":"2026-01-22T02:26:19","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T02:26:19","slug":"elizabeth-banks-heads-back-to-college-to-produce-feature-comedy-betas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/421993\/","title":{"rendered":"Elizabeth Banks Heads Back to College to Produce Feature Comedy &#8216;Betas&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/elizabeth-banks\/\" id=\"auto-tag_elizabeth-banks\" data-tag=\"elizabeth-banks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elizabeth Banks<\/a> is returning to the stomping grounds that cemented her as a career producer and box office draw: the rowdy college comedy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBanks\u2019 Brownstone Productions will mount \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/betas\/\" id=\"auto-tag_betas\" data-tag=\"betas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Betas<\/a>,\u201d a film set in the viral world of sorority rush culture. <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/sammi-cohen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sammi-cohen\" data-tag=\"sammi-cohen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sammi Cohen<\/a> (\u201cYou\u2019re So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah\u201d) will direct the project from a script by Ilana Wolpert (\u201cAnyone But You\u201d).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBanks, whose \u201cPitch Perfect\u201d franchise revitalized the campus genre and scored close to $600 million at the worldwide box office, was the rush chair for her own sorority (Tri Delta) at the University of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBanks, Max Handelman and Alison Small will produce via Brownstone. Kimberly Carver (HBO Max\u2019s \u201cJulia\u201d) will executive produce. The distributor and production timeline are still unknown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBrownstone enjoys first-look deals at both Universal Pictures and Universal Television. Earlier this year, Variety reported that Banks and Handelman will produce \u201cPitch Perfect: K-Pop Idols\u201d for Peacock, yet another spinoff from the a capella world. Brownstone is also developing the series \u201cCrush\u201d from writer and executive producer Addison McQuigg at Peacock. The show is said to be inspired by the 1995 episode of \u201cThe Jenny Jones Show\u201d titled \u201cRevealing Same-Sex Secret Crushes.\u201d The logline states that it is \u201cset within the insane world of tabloid talk shows, weaving together a poignant tale of ambition, heartbreak and murder.\u201d The company previously produced Banks\u2019 2019 take on \u201cCharlie\u2019s Angels,\u201d the gonzo horror hit \u201cCocaine Bear\u201d and series like Aidy Bryant\u2019s \u201cShrill\u201d for Hulu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tScreenwriter Wolpert is repped at UTA and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis LLP. Cohen is repped at UTA, Range and Jackoway Austen. Carver is with\u00a0Myman, Greenspan, Fox.
