WESTPHALIA, Mich. (WILX) – A 50-year-old man and his 5-year-old granddaughter have died after falling into a private pond in Clinton County, according to police.<\/p>\n
Clinton County sheriff\u2019s deputies were dispatched<\/a> to a pond in the 9000 block of Clintonia Road in Westphalia Township shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n An initial investigation found that a UTV occupied by the 50-year-old and his granddaughter broke through the ice on the pond, according to police.<\/p>\n Both the man and the girl were pulled from the water and taken to the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow, where they later died from their injuries.<\/p>\n The man was identified as 50-year-old Eric Miles from Portland. The identity of the child will not be released.<\/p>\n The incident remains under investigation.
