And in 2025 alone, the government paid a total of US$1.4 billion to Eurobond holders.<\/p>\n<p>This move was intended to strengthen reforms in domestic revenue mobilisation, public financial management, and public debt management.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite this achievement, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/people\/person.php?ID=3679\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">International Monetary Fund<\/a> (IMF) has expressed concern over the excitement surrounding Ghana&#8217;s Eurobond issuance, emphasising the importance of a proper debt management framework.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Director of the IMF\u2019s African Department, Abebe Aemro Selassie, while speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, Ghana\u2019s efforts to navigate domestic financing amid global economic challenges are commendable. <\/p>\n<p>He further highlighted a sharp contrast between domestic and external borrowing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/business\/IMF-Africa-Director-hails-Ghana-s-gains-in-power-access-living-standards-2018329\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">IMF Africa Director hails Ghana\u2019s gains in power access, living standards<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the government issues domestic bonds, it\u2019s fundamentally different. You borrow in your own currency, and as long as you are prudent, that\u2019s fine. But whenever there is Eurobond issuance, the hype is overwhelming!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that Ghana has been classified as being at high risk of debt distress since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>He cautioned that while certain policies may have contributed to this situation, changes in the external environment have also played a significant role.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, what we do is take a comprehensive assessment of policies and the financing related to those policies.
