With the Chicago Street Course not returning to the schedule next year<\/a>, NASCAR needed a new street course event, and they’ve found it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chicago will be replaced by an entirely new event in San Diego with all three national divisions racing at\u00a0Naval Base\u00a0Coronado. While Chicago took place on Fourth of July weekend, this race is scheduled for the weekend of June 19-21.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of our nation\u2019s 250th\u00a0anniversary, we are honored for NASCAR to join the celebration as we host our first street race at a military base, Naval Base Coronado,\u201d said Ben Kennedy, EVP, Chief Venue & Racing Innovation Officer. \u201cNASCAR San Diego Weekend will honor the Navy\u2019s history and the men and women who serve as we take the best motorsports in the world to the streets of Naval Base Coronado.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to NASCAR, this will be the first Cup race ever held on an\u00a0active military base. It will also be a one-year deal. The official layout has yet to be revealed, but iRacing helped NASCAR to develop the street course. This race also comes just two weeks prior to the 250th anniversary of the formation of the United States of America.<\/p>\n

This will also mark the return of the NASCAR Cup Series to Southern California, as the last points-paying race there was at the now demolished Auto Club Speedway in 2023. They also raced at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum for the pre-season Clash, but that venture ended after the 2024 season.<\/p>\n
