Jan 22 (Reuters) – Spotify on Thursday rolled out “prompted playlist”, an artificial intelligence-powered feature in the \u200bUnited States and Canada that allows premium \u200cusers tailor playlists using their listening habits and commands.<\/p>\n
After its \u200csuccessful run in New Zealand, the expansion is the latest in a series of AI-powered updates on the Swedish streaming platform as it looks to attract \u2060more users to \u200cits subscription plans from the free tier.<\/p>\n
“Listeners don’t just want Spotify to understand them. \u200dThey want to actively shape their own experience,” Vice President Of Product Personalization Molly Holder said in a \u200bmedia briefing.<\/p>\n
Spotify said the new feature would position \u200cusers as active participants who direct the algorithm using their own words and intentions, rather than being passive recipients of suggestions provided by the streaming platform.<\/p>\n
Unlike previous features such as AI playlist, prompted playlist \u2060will enable users to set “rules” \u200bfor the generated content and \u200bcan be scheduled to refresh daily or weekly, ensuring the music remains current, the \u200dcompany said.<\/p>\n
The \u2060move follows Spotify’s announcement earlier this month to increase price of its monthly premium subscription plan \u2060by $1 to $12.99 in the United States, Estonia and Latvia \u200cmarkets beginning February.<\/p>\n
