{"id":424398,"date":"2026-01-23T05:36:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T05:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/424398\/"},"modified":"2026-01-23T05:36:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T05:36:10","slug":"vdot-holds-community-meeting-on-i-81-expansion-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/424398\/","title":{"rendered":"VDOT holds community meeting on I-81 expansion project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">ROANOKE, Va.  \u2013 VDOT is asking drivers to pardon the dust as a major I-81 expansion moves closer to reality. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">At a community meeting held Thursday, residents were walked through a project aimed at improving safety and traffic capacity along the busy seven-mile stretch of interstate. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The project will add a third travel lane in both directions between exits 143 and 150. Exit 150-A will close during the bridge construction, shifting traffic to exit 150-B and the Troutville weigh station will also close during part of the project. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Construction is set to begin in Fall 2027 and continue through 2029, with drivers expected to see temporary traffic changes.
