for an American couple.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288615 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/studio-karhard-kreuzberg-apartment-berlin-berghain-style_dezeen_2364_col_16-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Living space of the apartment informed by Berghain's interior\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>Berghain designer Studio Karhard renovated this Berlin apartment in homage to the city&#8217;s famous nightclub<\/p>\n<p>When conceiving the interior, Thomas Karsten and\u00a0Alexandra Erhard of local practice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.karhard.de\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Studio Karhard<\/a> drew on their 2003 experience of designing the interiors of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Berghain\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Berghain<\/a> \u2013 the German capital&#8217;s renowned techno club set within a former power plant.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The apartment reflects the clear design language and material aesthetics of Berghain in a homely context,&#8221; Karsten and Erhard told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288618 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/studio-karhard-kreuzberg-apartment-berlin-berghain-style_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Glass brick kitchen\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>Glass brick features heavily throughout the home<\/p>\n<p>The duo reconfigured the layout to increase space and maximise light in the communal areas.<\/p>\n<p>A striking curved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/glass-bricks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">glass brick<\/a> wall anchors the central living space, which filters light between the entrance and the lounge area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Glass blocks provide interesting effects and a semi-transparent feeling,&#8221; said the design duo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288619 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/studio-karhard-kreuzberg-apartment-berlin-berghain-style_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Terrazzo flooring\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>Terrazzo flooring was selected as &#8220;a high-quality, timeless accent&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A crimson-red, low-slung sofa was built around the wall on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/stainless-steel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stainless steel<\/a> base that doubles as a side table at each end, while translucent petrol green glass coffee tables sit atop a velvety circular rug.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/terrazzo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Terrazzo<\/a> flooring was selected as &#8220;a high-quality, timeless accent that brings all the parts together&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Throughout the apartment, the material selection is collage-like with a special focus on the haptic and atmospheric,&#8221; explained Karsten and Erhard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288620 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/studio-karhard-kreuzberg-apartment-berlin-berghain-style_dezeen_2364_col_6-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Powder room with metallic walls\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Some rooms were deliberately designed to prioritise darkness<\/p>\n<p>The open-plan kitchen and dining space is also characterised by a glass brick wall, which gives way to floor-to-ceiling stainless steel cabinetry with untreated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/brass\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">brass<\/a> alcoves.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Stainless steel emphasises the strict, functional appearance of industrial buildings,&#8221; said the designers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288621 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/studio-karhard-kreuzberg-apartment-berlin-berghain-style_dezeen_2364_col_22-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Study with statement silver suitcases\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Often on the go, the occupants store their statement silver suitcases in the study in between travels<\/p>\n<p>Other spaces were deliberately created to prioritise darkness, nodding to intimate corners of nightclubs. The all-metal powder room features a partially gridded ceiling, illuminated only by thin strip lighting above a brutalist-style sink.<\/p>\n<p>Karsten and Erhard said that they initially toyed with adding a smoke machine to the room as a playful ode to nightlife, but realised it would not be a practical choice for a second home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A fog machine needs to operate regularly and requires a lot of maintenance,&#8221; they reflected.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288622 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/studio-karhard-kreuzberg-apartment-berlin-berghain-style_dezeen_2364_col_9-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Gleaming black bathtub\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>A gleaming black tub characterises the bathroom<\/p>\n<p>In the bedroom, matte black walls and charcoal-coloured bedding create an immersive cocoon. The same colour palette was selected for a small study where the occupants store their statement silver suitcases in between travels.<\/p>\n<p>The living space&#8217;s glass brick wall doubles as one of the walls of the bathroom, which features a gleaming black tub accented with built-in yellow lights.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/06\/23\/clap-studio-oven-nightclub\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/clap-studio-oven-nightclub_dezeen_2364_col_12-copy-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Red-lit nightclub interior\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Clap Studio turns up the heat with oven-informed techno club\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Studio Karhard made a name for itself designing Berghain, and has continued to draw on the club&#8217;s creative legacy, including with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2019\/03\/26\/urban-dentist-berlin-studio-karhard-berghain\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a previous dental surgery<\/a> that was conceived like a &#8220;concept store or cool bar&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>But the studio founders have worked across residential, retail and healthcare settings and emphasised that each project comes with a very distinctive set of requirements.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288623 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/studio-karhard-kreuzberg-apartment-berlin-berghain-style_dezeen_2364_col_7-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Bathroom with mood lighting\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Studio Karhard attaches &#8220;great importance to mood elements&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The goal is always to strengthen or defuse feelings with spatial design, such as euphoria in clubs or fear in medical practices,&#8221;
