\n\tChris Pine<\/a> is in the dark about the future of the \u201cStar Trek\u201d franchise. During a Sundance interview at the Variety\u00a0Studio presented by Audible, the actor was asked about Paramount\u2019s new leadership and what they have in store for the space franchise. The answer was simple: \u201cYou probably know more than I do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs Variety reported last year<\/a>, Jonathan Goldstein and\u00a0John Francis Daley, the duo behind the Pine-starring \u201cDungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves\u201d are writing, producing and directing a new \u201cStar Trek<\/a>\u201d film that will seek to revitalize the franchise. The new film will not be a continuation of the J.J. Abrams-led reboot of the series and won\u2019t feature Pine, who played Captain Kirk in three \u201cStar Trek\u201d movies between 2009 and 2016.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen asked if he had any advice for the new Paramount leadership in regards to \u201cStar Trek,\u201d Pine answered: \u201cAdvice? Have fun, good luck, live long and prosper.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPine opened the 2026 Sundance Film Festival with \u201cCarousel<\/a>,\u201d a romance drama co-starring Jenny Slate and directed by Rachel Lambert. Pine stars in the film as a single father whose life is upended by the reemergence of his high school ex. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMany a male character in film and in life\u2026 there is a difficulty for men to communicate feelings with clarity. He struggles with that,\u201d Pine said about his character, noting how Slate\u2019s ex-girlfriend \u201callows him in the messiest way to confront these feelings and purge them out of the system.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSlate added of the film, \u201cI was so excited by Rachel\u2019s script for many reasons, but I think it\u2019s a real opportunity when you get a full interiority. That makes for good drama. I started in comedy because it\u2019s the easiest way to deal with my shadow, but not because I don\u2019t have one. Now to sort of grow up into my adulthood as performer and to confront it straight on\u2026 I saw that opportunity in this script.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Chris Pine is in the dark about the future of the \u201cStar Trek\u201d franchise.
