(WKRN) \u2014 Since the late 1970s, Dave Mustaine has entertained millions of diehard metal fans around the world, but it\u2019s Middle Tennessee he and his family choose to call home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast time we played with Iron Maiden here, we were at Bridgestone Arena, and somebody said, \u2018Why don\u2019t you move to Tennessee instead of Texas?\u2019 \u2019cause I said we were thinking about moving to Austin because Electra [Mustaine\u2019s daughter] wanted to sing, and she became a sommelier and blew that all off, and we moved to Nashville, and here we are,\u201d Mustaine told News 2. \u201cWe\u2019re all flourishing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mustaine said of all the places he\u2019s lived, the mid-south region welcomed him with open arms. When his family moved here, the Tennessee General Assembly passed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkrn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/73\/2026\/01\/HJR1305.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">resolution<\/a> honoring him for his contributions to music. Kentucky also made him a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kycolonels.org\/famous-colonels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">colonel.<\/a> Just last week, La Vergne Mayor Jason Cole proclaimed Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026 as Megadeth Day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, it was kind of foreign not having my checkbook out down at City Hall, if you know what I mean,\u201d Mustaine said. \u201cI\u2019ve been down there a couple times for some speeding tickets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\ud83d\udce7\u00a0Have breaking news come to you:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nxslink.wkrn.com\/join\/6sd\/signup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Subscribe to News 2 email alerts<\/a> \u2192<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe funny thing was, I met the mayor, and it wasn\u2019t just like one of those guys that you meet and you never see again,\u201d Mustaine said. \u201cI saw him the next night, and I recognized him. He was in his street clothes and it wasn\u2019t like someone said, \u2018Oh, you remember this guy, right?\u2019 No, I clearly remembered him, and it was so fun to see him at the listening event that we did in La Vergne.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Megadeth\u2019s final self-titled studio album \u2014 dropping Jan. 23 \u2014 was also recorded in La Vergne.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think probably \u2018Countdown to Extinction\u2019 was the only other time when we had things this well put together ahead of time,\u201d Mustaine said.<\/p>\n<p>As the Grammy-winning artist gears up for Megadeth\u2019s North America farewell tour, starting next month, Mustaine has some advice to share for the next up and coming stars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t ever give up,\u201d Mustaine said. \u201cIf it feels like you\u2019re the only one that understands your music, maybe that\u2019s true. Maybe you need to watch \u2018Purple Rain\u2019 and see when the club manager tells Prince the only one that understands his music is himself.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"LA VERGNE, Tenn.
