Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol has been announced, and the anime is returning with a sequel after over 8 years. The announcement was made on January 25, 2026, at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event held at Makuhari Messe in Japan, celebrating the franchise\u2019s 40th anniversary<\/a>. The new series is officially set for production and was described as the \u201cpinnacle\u201d of the anniversary project that began in 2024.<\/p>\n

In addition to the anime news, a brand new game titled AGE1000 <\/a>was announced.<\/p>\n

Present on stage were Masako Nozawa, the Japanese voice actress of Son Goku, and Akio Iyoku, Executive Producer of the Dragon Ball series. The announcement took place during the opening stage event titled \u201cExclusive Announcements! GENKIDASTAGE Part 1.\u201d They explained that the new anime will continue the story after the Tournament of Power. It\u2019s described:
This will be the story following the \u201cUniverse Survival Arc\u201d of the anime Dragon Ball Super, which aired between 2015 and 2018. It also appears in the manga Dragon Ball as the \u201cGalactic Patrol Prisoner Arc.\u201d The main character, Son Goku, and Vegeta, work together with the members of the Galactic Patrol, the peacekeepers of the galaxy, to begin a SUPER scale battle against a new enemy, \u201cPlanet-Eater\u201d Moro!<\/p>\n

It was also confirmed that Akira Toriyama is credited with Original Work, Story, and Character Design for the anime.<\/p>\n

Prior to revealing the new anime, a DRAGON BALL 40th Anniversary Special Video was released simultaneously worldwide. The video was created as a commemorative animation bringing Akira Toriyama\u2019s color illustrations to life using modern animation techniques, with a strong focus on faithfully recreating the textures and colors of his artwork. Produced by Toei Animation and directed by Naoki Miyahara, the special video visually traces Son Goku\u2019s growth and journey across the Dragon Ball series.<\/p>\n

The music for the special video is a brand-new original composition written specifically for the project by Hans Zimmer, with the theme titled \u201cInfinite Future.\u201d The orchestral score was arranged by Tom Lucas. Hans Zimmer also shared a message celebrating Dragon Ball\u2019s 40th anniversary and his participation in the project. The announcement video concludes with the reveal of the new anime.<\/p>\n

A teaser visual was revealed, showing Goku and Vegeta standing side by side wearing Galactic Patrol uniforms and battle armor, with the Galactic Patrol symbol prominently displayed. You can see the teaser visual below.<\/p>\n

Dragon Ball\u00a0is a Japanese manga\u00a0created by\u00a0Akira Toriyama\u00a0in 1984. It was serialized in Shueisha\u2019s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1989.\u00a0The Dragon Ball Z\u00a0sequel started in 1989 and ended in 1995. The sequel to\u00a0Z,\u00a0Dragon Ball Super\u00a0started serialization in 2015 and is still ongoing.<\/p>\n

The franchise received numerous anime adaptations, with the latest ones being Dragon Ball Super and Super Dragon Ball Heroes. With the latter one being separate from the main continuity, fans have been excited for the story to continue. The Dragon Ball Super\u00a0TV anime ran from July 2015 to March 2018 for a total of 131 episodes. Crunchyroll\u00a0streams the anime, for which they describe the story:<\/p>\n

One of them is the Dragon Ball\u00a0Theme Park<\/a>, which is planned to cover 500,000 square meters and be a key part of the Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

Akira Toriyama\u00a0passed away<\/a>\u00a0on March 1, 2024.<\/p>\n
