\u201cWhen I read that, I said, well, he\u2019s had a stroke, and he\u2019s taking the right medication,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Trump revealed his daily aspirin intake as a way to explain the persistent bruising on his hands, which have baffled viewers for months. The Daily Beast has led the charge in questioning Trump\u2019s medical issues<\/a>, reporting consistently on his hands, swollen ankles, and apparent cognitive issues<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n Trump said he was taking aspirin as a blood thinner for his cardiac health, and the aspirin caused his hands to bruise easily. <\/p>\n \u201cThey say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don\u2019t want thick blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?\u201d Trump told the Journal. <\/p>\n \u201cLow-dose\u201d aspirin prescriptions to prevent heart attacks and strokes usually come in 75-100 mg doses, with the Mayo Clinic recommending 81 mg<\/a>. When it came out that Trump was taking quadruple the recommended dose, doctors said his daily 325 mg intake was far too high<\/a> if he was taking it as a blood thinner.<\/p>\n But Davidson, a professor at Washington State University\u2019s Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, said 325 mg would be the recommended dose if Trump previously had a stroke. <\/p>\n He first made the claim<\/a> on a Jan. 14 episode of The Court of History<\/a> podcast, then wrote about his theory for The Daily Beast<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n \u201cThe American Heart Association\u2019s 2021 stroke guidelines<\/a> recommend a full 325 mg aspirin pill to prevent recurrent stroke, after a stroke,\u201c wrote Davidson. \u201dIt is not recommended for primary stroke prevention, heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, venous insufficiency, or other venous disease\u2014only for large intracranial vessel partial occlusion, after a stroke.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The president\u2019s high aspirin dosage wasn\u2019t the only thing that convinced Dr. Davidson that Trump is hiding a previous stroke. <\/p>\n \u201cFor President Trump, earlier in the year, there was a video of him shuffling, and I thought that was weird,\u201d he told Coles. \u201cThen I saw him cradling his right hand in his left, which is a common, involuntary thing that people with strokes have done when they have weakness.\u201d<\/p>\n Davidson went on, \u201cOn one side, he garbled words, much more so a couple months ago than he\u2019s doing now. That implies he broke his speech area, which is in the frontal left portion of the brain.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cAnd then recently, there was video of him walking down the stairs from Air Force One, holding the banister with his left hand, yet he\u2019s right-handed. And the speech became much better. And that suggested to me, along with the 325 milligrams of aspirin\u2014which you only take for one thing, right?\u2014He\u2019s had a prior stroke. He\u2019s recovered from the stroke,\u201d Davidson concluded.<\/p>\n The White House dismissed Davidson\u2019s theory that Trump had a stroke. <\/p>\n \u201cAny so-called medical professionals engaging in armchair diagnosis or false speculation for political purposes are clearly breaking the Hippocratic Oath they\u2019ve sworn to,\u201d White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told The Daily Beast. \u201cThese are false and slanderous allegations from a left-wing nut job. This fake news story should be retracted immediately.\u201d <\/p>\n Leavitt, a 28-year-old failed Republican candidate for a New Hampshire congressional seat, previously stated that Trump\u2019s hands were bruised because he was \u201cshaking hands all day.\u201d It wasn\u2019t until Trump said that the bruising was a result of his high aspirin intake that the White House\u2019s official explanation for the bruising changed. <\/p>\n The White House called the Daily Beast \u201cmentally ill\u201d for asking questions regarding Trump\u2019s health on Thursday<\/a>. The quote was not attributed to any White House spokesperson. <\/p>\n Davidson insisted that the stroke alone shouldn\u2019t disqualify Trump from being president, but urged that he get proper medical care. <\/p>\n \u201cWhen I see the president appearing like a patient having trouble, I want his physicians to engage,\u201d said Davidson. \u201cAnd this illustrates, I regret to say, a terrible, increasing weakness in American medical leadership that we\u2019re suffering from.\u201d<\/p>\n New episodes of The Daily Beast Podcast are released every Monday, Wednesday and Sunday on YouTube<\/a>.
