{"id":432063,"date":"2026-01-27T04:28:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T04:28:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/432063\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T04:28:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T04:28:13","slug":"measles-confirmed-in-waukesha-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/432063\/","title":{"rendered":"Measles confirmed in Waukesha County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WAUKESHA, Wis. \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.wisconsin.gov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wisconsin Department of Health Services<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.wisconsin.gov\/news\/releases\/012626.htm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">confirms the first case of measles<\/a> in the Badger state this year in a resident in Waukesha County.<\/p>\n<p>Health officials at the state level and from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waukeshacounty.gov\/health-and-human-services\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Waukesha County Health and Human Services<\/a> report the case is related to an adult traveling internationally, and are still working to identify and notify anyone who may have been exposed.<\/p>\n<p>So far, they have not identified any locations where the general public may have been exposed.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/measles\/about\/index.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, measles<\/a> is a highly contagious disease that can spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and can linger in the air for up to two hours after the exposure. <\/p>\n<p>It is so contagious that if one person gets it, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/measles\/causes\/index.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">up to 90% of the people around them may also become infected if they are not vaccinated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of measles typically appear approximately 10 to 21 days after an exposure, and include:<\/p>\n<p>Runny nose.<\/p>\n<p>High fever (may be greater than 104\u00b0F).<\/p>\n<p>Tiredness.<\/p>\n<p>Cough.<\/p>\n<p>Red, watery eyes, or conjunctivitis (\u201cpink eye\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>A red rash with raised bumps that starts at the hairline and moves to the arms and legs three to five days after symptoms begin.<\/p>\n<p>Measles can cause serious health complications, including pneumonia, brain damage, and deafness, and can sometimes become deadly.
