Shortstop Mairon De La Rosa, a switch-hitter from the Dominican Republic who is widely considered as the top international prospect in his class, has agreed to sign with the Mariners for $3.8 million, according to multiple reports. Francys Romero first reported the news Sunday.

De La Rosa previously had an agreement with the New York Yankees. That deal was worth $4.3 million, per Héctor Gómez.

De La Rosa is the second highly regarded switch-hitting shortstop from the Dominican Republic verbally committed to the M’s for the 2027 international free agent class, joining Eudi Yuten, who has reportedly agreed to sign with Seattle for $4 million. Yuten is regarded as a top-five prospect in the class.

Members of the 2027 international free agent class won’t be eligible to sign until January 2027.

The M’s have had plenty of success in the international free agent market over the past decade, dating back to when they signed three-time All-Star center fielder Julio Rodríguez in 2017. Rodríguez was the 10th-ranked international free agent in his class, per MLB Pipeline.

Outfielder Lazaro Montes and outfielder/second baseman Michael Arroyo, both ranked as top 100 prospects heading into this season by MLB Pipeline, were international free agent signings in 2022. Montes was the No. 8 prospect and Arroyo the No. 42 prospect for the 2022 class.

Shortstop Felnin Celesten, who appeared on various top 100 prospect lists last year, was the No. 2 prospect for the 2023 international class. And Seattle’s 2025 international class was headlined by Venezuelan outfielder Yorger Bautista, the No. 6 prospect.

More Seattle Mariners offseason coverage

• Mariners acquire RHP Cooper Criswell from NY Mets
