He has, however, gotten interest about returning to the NFL as an assistant.<\/p>\n<p>Via Zack Rosenblatt of TheAthletic.com, the Jets <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ZackBlatt\/status\/2016317735223919042?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reached out to Gruden<\/a> regarding the possibility of joining coach Aaron Glenn\u2019s staff. But Gruden was not interested.<\/p>\n<p>While visiting Lions training camp in July, Gruden made it clear that he wants to coach again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/jon-gruden-im-working-hard-to-get-one-more-shot-at-coaching\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Hopefully I\u2019m not done<\/a>,\u201d Gruden said at the time. \u201cI\u2019m about to make a comeback. I\u2019m working hard to maybe get one more shot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gruden apparently would prefer that shot to be as a head coach. And that\u2019s his prerogative. It could be easier to get another head-coaching job, however, if he returns as an assistant and performs well.<\/p>\n<p>Hovering over the entire situation is the fact that Gruden currently has the NFL on the run in court, with a lawsuit that has managed to withstand the league\u2019s relentless effort to force the case into arbitration. It\u2019s gutsy, to say the least, for the Jets to even make an inquiry to Gruden.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Jon Gruden has gotten no sniffs in the current head-coaching carousel.
