{"id":43431,"date":"2025-07-28T20:17:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-28T20:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/43431\/"},"modified":"2025-07-28T20:17:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T20:17:09","slug":"madison-keys-and-coco-gauff-both-say-what-they-think-of-eugenie-bouchard-as-she-gets-ready-to-retire-from-tennis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/43431\/","title":{"rendered":"Madison Keys and Coco Gauff both say what they think of Eugenie Bouchard as she gets ready to retire from tennis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Eugenie Bouchard will play her final tournament in front of a home crowd in Montreal at the Canadian Open this week. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/eugenie-bouchard-explains-why-playing-tennis-is-just-not-worth-it-anymore-ahead-of-her-retirement-in-montreal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bouchard announced her retirement<\/a> from tennis in a post on social media, revealing on Instagram she would play her last match \u2018where it all started\u2019. <\/p>\n<p>The Canadian reached the final of Wimbledon in 2014, where she ultimately fell to two-time champion Petra Kvitova.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/she-reached-the-final-of-wimbledon-in-2014-but-is-now-retiring-after-failing-to-qualify-for-five-grand-slams-in-a-row\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bouchard failed to qualify for five majors<\/a> in a row from 2021 to 2023 and has played sporadically in 2024 and 2025. <\/p>\n<p>Now, aged 31, she is ready to call it a day on her career, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA<\/a> stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/madison-keys\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Madison Keys<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Coco Gauff<\/a> gave their thoughts on. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"619\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2226263632-1024x619.jpg\" alt=\"Eugenie Bouchard on her way to practice in Montreal.\" class=\"wp-image-115207\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty ImagesMadison Keys discusses Eugenie Bouchard\u2019s retirement <\/p>\n<p>Speaking about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/eugenie-bouchard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bouchard<\/a> ahead of her Canadian Open campaign, Keys said: \u201cWe grew up together in juniors, so I\u2019ve known Genie for a very long time and played against her when we were young.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always special to grow up with someone and watch each other move up in the rankings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s had a phenomenal career and accomplished some great things, including Grand Slam finals\u2014two I think\u2014and reaching the top five. Or maybe a final and a semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Genie is just herself, and I think it comes across. Everything she says and does feels authentic. People have always gravitated towards that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe like to see authentic people in the spotlight. Sometimes everything is too scripted, and I feel like she never fell into that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-451727242-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Eugenie Bouchard holding her Wimbledon runner-up trophy in 2014.\" class=\"wp-image-115598\" \/>Photo by Pool\/Getty ImagesCoco Gauff\u2019s reaction to Eugenie Bouchard\u2019s retirement <\/p>\n<p>Gauff said of the former world number five\u2019s retirement: I didn\u2019t know that was happening until a couple of days ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cBut obviously she had a great career early on and had a great couple of results in some slams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s definitely not easy, but I know she is also playing pickleball too, so she is spread across. I think she will be fine.
