players and rules in tennis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/nick-kyrgios-handed-another-setback-ahead-of-the-us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kyrgios keeps having injury setbacks<\/a>, and has not played a singles match since March at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/miami-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miami Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His most recent appearance on the matchcourt in doubles did not go to plan either, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/nick-kyrgios-has-an-important-decision-to-make-after-suffering-58-minute-defeat-in-washington\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kyrgios losing in under an hour with Gael Monfils<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/nick-kyrgios\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kyrgios\u2019<\/a> recent experience on the court has not gone so well, he does now appear to have changed his mind about a player he once criticised.<\/p>\n<p><img ImagesNick Kyrgios says he thinks Casper Ruud is the smartest tennis player<\/p>\n<p>As part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/washington-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Open\u2019s<\/a> media day, players including Kyrgios, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emma Raducanu<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jessica-pegula\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jessica Pegula<\/a> were asked who they think is the smartest on tour.<\/p>\n<p>Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/ben-shelton\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Shelton<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/emma-navarro\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emma Navarro<\/a> agreed that Pegula was their smartest player on tour, while she actually picked another American in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/what-has-happened-to-madison-keys-since-the-australian-open-which-wont-sit-well-with-her-according-to-chris-evert\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australian Open champion Madison Keys<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>World number one and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jannik-sinner-makes-dramatic-u-turn-with-his-coaching-team-just-weeks-after-winning-the-wimbledon-title\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner<\/a> was selected by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/lorenzo-musetti\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lorenzo Musetti<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/daniil-medvedev\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daniil Medvedev<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Medvedev, himself, was selected by compatriot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andrey-rublev\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrey Rublev<\/a>, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/holger-rune\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Holger Rune<\/a> picked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/throwbacks\/the-moment-novak-djokovic-realised-he-could-be-the-all-time-leader-in-grand-slam-titles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/elena-rybakina\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elena Rybakina<\/a> chose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/barbora-krejcikova\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Barbora Krejcikova<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/venus-williams-doubles-partner-for-the-washington-open-says-if-she-would-like-to-play-a-match-against-her\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hailey Baptiste played doubles with Venus Williams<\/a> at the Washington Open this year,  but revealed that she thought <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/serena-williams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Serena Williams<\/a> was the smartest player.<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu also chose a retired player and picked one of the pioneers of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA Tour<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/billie-jean-king\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Billie Jean King<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When it came to Kyrgios\u2019 selection, he chose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/casper-ruud\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Casper Ruud<\/a> and suggested that he thought the Norwegian appears to have his life together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m gonna go Casper Ruud,\u201d said Kyrgios. \u201cI feel like he\u2019s very smart he\u2019s got his stuff sorted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/nick-kyrgios-suggests-that-hes-completely-changed-his-opinion-on-casper-ruud-now\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kyrgios and Ruud appear to be on good terms now<\/a>, that has not always been the case.<\/p>\n<p>Why did Nick Kyrgios call Casper Ruud boring?<\/p>\n<p>At the Italian Open in 2019, Kyrgios was defaulted in a match against Ruud for throwing a chair onto the court.<\/p>\n<p>This ignited a feud between the pair, with Ruud calling Kyrgios an \u2018idiot\u2019 in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/tennisportalen.se\/reportage-norske-sensationen-casper-ruud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Tennisportalen<\/a> after he had been criticised for celebrating the default win.<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios did not take too kindly to these comments and called Ruud boring in a rant on X (formerly known as Twitter).<\/p>\n<p>He wrote at the time, \u201cHey @CasperRuud98 next time you have something to say, I would appreciate you say it to my face, I\u2019m sure you wouldn\u2019t run your mouth so much after that.
