Bruce Springsteen<\/a> has released a protest song denouncing President Donald J. Trump and the \u201cprivate army\u201d\u00a0of his Department of Homeland Security, in the wake of ICE\u2019s killings of Alex Pretti<\/a> and Renee Good<\/a> in Minneapolis. Listen to \u201cStreets of Minneapolis\u201d below.<\/p>\n

Springsteen shared the following statement:<\/p>\n

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It\u2019s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.<\/p>\n

Stay free, Bruce Springsteen<\/p>\n

The rallying full-band song memorializes Pretti and Good in verses that pull no punches on the crimes of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. \u201cTrump\u2019s federal thugs beat up on his face and his chest,\u201d Springsteen sings. \u201cThen we heard the gunshots, and Alex Pretti lay in the snow, dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

A stirring refrain closes the song:<\/p>\n

Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice
Singing through the bloody mist
Here in our home they killed and roamed
In the winter of \u201926
We\u2019ll take our stand for this land
And the stranger in our midst<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Springsteen dedicated<\/a> a rendition of \u201cThe Promised Land\u201d\u00a0to Good during an impromptu appearance at a New Jersey festival, telling the crowd: \u201cIf you believe in democracy, in liberty; if you believe that truth still matters, and that it\u2019s worth speaking out, and it\u2019s worth fighting for; if you believe in the power of the law and that no one stands above it; if you stand against heavily armed, masked, federal troops invading American cities, and using Gestapo tactics against our fellow citizens; if you believe you don\u2019t deserve to be murdered for exercising your American right to protest; then send a message to this president. And as the mayor of that city has said, ICE should get the fuck out of Minneapolis.\u201d<\/p>\n
